Giving names to geological structures in KSP?

Hello KSP players

The recent landing of Curiosity often mentioned in “Gale Crater†has reminded me that many geological structures not only on Earth but also on other celestial bodies were given names.

That's why I want to ask what you think if we give names to the structures on the Mun and Minmus and all those other planets and moons who will be in future?

My suggestion would be that we name visible structures after deceased astronauts and cosmonauts.

Each proposal should be postet in form of a Poll, running for at least two weeks (14 days) and should contain the name of the astronaut and his achievements as well as a clear indication of position on a celestial body (image and coordinates).

Hi Maro. Fantastic idea and I wish someone thought of it soon. See the link above - its the same link in my thread.

The 'name a feature' is a community project. Anyone can name a feature after anything but if you wish to name a 'region' then that will go to a poll when there are enough nominations. There some rules to follow so take a look when you get a chance.

I'd made my own map today, with ISA mapper and my own names, to keep track of my missions.

Let the game devs name places if they see fit. 90% of the stuff I see thrown around is pretty garbage, and there really isn't any need. Most of the geographical features are indistinguishable from each other, and people are going to be clamoring to name a place after themselves or whatever, and it'll end up being BlackStorm Sea or something equally cheesy that sounds like a 13 year old came up with it. Besides, if you start naming places and try to explain to someone where something is and reference the map that not everyone is going to (or want to) use because there's nothing official about it, people are going to be asking, "What do you mean it's east of Maro's Delta? What the hell is Maro's Delta?" And then you refer to a link or a map to some sub-forum full of mindless shouting about how its called "Murs" or "Kars" or some other crap name. It's cute with the Mun, I cringe when I hear Kearth instead of Kerbin, and 99% of the other names I've seen thrown around here are pretty uninspired and lame sounding.

Go ahead and have fun, but don't get upset if nobody wants to call it "User X Peak" outside of the thread you're posting in.

calculus, the KGSS thread has a map with community nominated names. Unfortunately it's not in the first post. Because its been updated a few times, its' buried within the thread. The thread is in my signature. I suggest you start with the LAST post in that thread and work backwards until you find the map.

As wildkitty says, the work that the KGSS does is not canon, meaning it's not official. It's for fun so knock yourself out and have some fun too.

It was the first month or so that the game was public, the naming was as out of hand as rockets were

Simcity 4 had a nifty feature in that you could place a sign on a spot on the map and type a name into it, and if there's any naming to be done in KSP, that's how I'd like to see it. Trying to get people on the internet to agree on a consensus is like blowing on an ant hill.

Do we ever see feedback about our suggestions in their, I did add one once, but no one seemed to respond so I stooped following it.

The place to make suggestions is Development -> Suggestions. Not that you get feedback from the developers unless you are very lucky, as they are usually far too busy to respond!
