How do you think this canyon was formed?

I was so curious about this canyon i put my mun base about 2km away, how would a canyon like that be formed without water?

Hmmm possibly by a large rock, hitting the Mun at a shallow angle, it'd carve quite a channel.

It could have been formed by lava flows, there are several areas on our moon where lava once was.

I think it was formed like this:

Harvester: hmm, crater? What about a canyon! Yeah, Ill put it right here

In real life: It was created by the developers.

In the Kerbalverse: It was created by Jeb's great-great-grandfather. Orvillediah Kerman. Who flew the first in-atmosphere flight that turned into the first space-flight that also crashed into the mun, gouging out that canyon.

After that event they shut down the Kerbal Space Program until present day.

Interesting theories, but this canyon origins from a much earlier event called 'the strangely odd incident'. I'll tell you the story:

Once upon a time, there was a prism-shaped asteroid which wandered through the young Kerbol system on a highly elliptic path. One nice it happened to meet mister Mun. As the Asteroid, let's call it 'Humphrey' approached the Mun at a high velocity, they only had time for a short conversation, which the Mun later described as uncomforting and awkward. Shortly before Humphrey hit the Mun at a steep angle, he apologized for the involuntary encounter, which should be its last sentence.

However, as Humphrey was shaped like prism with a triangular base and as its acute angle was pointed at the Mun, the collision resulted in the forming of this canyon, which actually is a crater.

If the Mun has no atmosphere, then i would hazard a guess at it being the result of a collision with a comet/asteroid. Maybe.
