Not about the politix, but about the missile launches.

Tonight missile strike on the Yuzhmash plants in Dnepropetrovsk.
Some say, by the new RS-26 Rubezh IRBM (the offspring of Yars/Topol) with MRV head (not officially confirmed).

Rods from Vlad were not on my list for 2024, but here we are...

It is not a space missile , it is a 3-stage, global-range "RS-28 Sarmat" ballistic missile carrying a nuclear warhead that crashes into the target at a speed of 4000m/s. Unfortunately I don't have the ability to build a launcher vehicle like "Topol"

Me is interested to have a look at the internals of the memorial R-36M at the Yuzhnoe.

Not from bad nature, but to see, what's inside from the 3d modelling pov.

The 2d pictures are too schematic, and they don't present the geometry in the same way. Hard to distinguish the panels and the seals.

(Unlikely there is another chance to see that in details.)

Everyone screams it's an RS-26 Rubezh, an IRBM cancelled in 2018. It's a Yars minus one stage.

As someone quipped, "ICBM experts sending their hardware for other ICBM experts to look at".

Still thinking: six shot sixpacks straight verticaly.

Of course, this can be lightweight RVs and heavy decoys around them, but what if it's a secret orbital ion cannon?

It would be nice to send one to the (Moon, Mars, whatever) to collect evaporated ground samples.

Upd.
Officially, it was the new IRBM Oreshnik /  Hazel.

Technically, about the launch (the one mentioned above), but actually about the European Avio space company (can't find a thread on it).

https://topwar-ru.translate.goog/254314-posle-prileta-oreshnika-rukovodstvo-juzhmasha-ne-kommentiruet-perspektivu-proizvodstva-raketnyh-dvigatelej-rd-843-dlja-stran-nato.html?_x_tr_sl=ru&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=ru&_x_tr_pto=wapp

(Like always, ignore the comments.)

Quote

After the arrival of the Oreshnik, the management of Yuzhmash does not comment on the prospect of producing RD-843 rocket engines for NATO countries.

<...>

It is noteworthy that in mid-September, the management of Yuzhmash announced that it would continue to produce RD-843 rocket engines for the European company Avio until 2027. In European terminology, this engine is called MEA. The company is represented by factories in France and Italy. It is engaged in the production of rockets, spacecraft (including spy satellites for France and other NATO countries).

This delicate flower will not survive for five minutes in the toxic landscape of Russian influencers and coaches in successful success...

In other news, tonight's military launch becomes the thousandth R-7-family flight from Plesetsk.

Assumed Lotos signal snooper.

It's really important to squat a launchpad by putting a monstrous "tulip" on it and making it inappropriate for any other type of the rockets.

They will have to keep launching your monstrous semi-hand-made R-7 for decades, because the money are already spent, and they have to use this monstrous tulip until it gets out of order to be replaced by a sane-design launch equipment.

Watch this master class, "space experts", and learn from the professionals.

Just btw.

https://antonkachinskiy.livejournal.com/

(in Russian)

provides a lot of well-illustrated posts on the Soviet personally Korolyov lunar projects, and its (project's) medical history.

Also, the 'Muricans' "Snow Cruiser" is also there.

(Ignore the political/historical posts from there).

On the one hand, very impressive, on the other, many wasted years. I say the latter in exactly the same way I do about the 30 years of the US Shuttle program. Shuttle was stagnant, and a lost opportunity to innovate more capable vehicles, and I think this family of vehicles is the same. Having a workhorse is great as long as you use that well-established fallback to push the envelope.

The greater bottleneck seems to be payload manufacture, not boosters. Why push the envelope only to find it's not in demand, and end up like Delta-IV non-Heavy, or Energia?

Fair point, I'm just sad that the retro-future both sides of the Space Race imagined in the 1960s never came to pass. I would add that payloads have historically been a bottleneck because of cost. When everything has to be minimum mass, it becomes expensive. Expensive payloads means payload rarity, which makes designers choose even more safety/redundancy—which makes them yet more costly, and so forth.
