Station parts go all wonky sometimes

Recommended Posts

If I load my station from the Tracking Station, it loads just fine. Every time I load it by going to Map and clicking "Switch To" the parts all get thrown out of alignment. Going back to the Tracking Station and reloading it fixes it.

Anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on how to fix (other than "don't load from Map" :P )

You can see the docking ports and neighboring parts are a mess.

I can see in the image that some of those parts come from some mod (I can't tell which because I don't recognize it).

Some modded parts will do that. I can't say why, maybe the colliders.... but in my experience there are those mods which,  most as I like them,  I know I just cant use because of issues like that. Maybe it isn't evem that mod's fault,  but the way it interacts with other mods.

Try this: build another purelly stock space station,  or rather,  avoid the specific parts shown in that picture,  then launch the craft again. See if the problem persists. If it doesn't,  maybe you just zeroed into the problem.

Again,  it's not that a given mod is bad. Two test-proven mods may not interact well with eachother. I play a heavilly modded game and issues like the one you reported are common.... it is a common thing for me to go about uninstalling mods one by one to find who is causing some issue. And then its all about deciding what is really indispensable.

Thanks! The docking ports are something I found from HomeGrown Rockets. I think the mod is dead as the last supporter @Kerbas_ad_astra hasn't posted anything new in a while. The models are really great so I've been updating the parts. You raise a good point about colliders though. That's something I can't see / fix in a config file.

Those golden-coated parts do look good. There are several mods I insist on using even if for their aestetic aspects alone..

But using abandoned or not updated mods can be nasty,  specially giving the speed KSP is evolving.

Yea, i'm pretty comfortable modding parts and have a whole variety that I've tweaked for personal use. I haven't delved into actually modeling parts yet, so if the part model is broken I'm outa luck. I've found issues with colliders before and also sometimes engines whose thrust isn't centered, so they induce torque - those all have to get thrown out

I aten't dead yet, but this is the first I've heard of docking port issues.  (My focus on HGR is on localization and investigating some fit/coverage issues related to the heat shield.)

There definitely is an oddity in that the docking ports have a 'probe' animation that extends a collider, but that's beyond my modding ability at this time, so I can only echo @Daniel Prates's advice.

YES!!! So excited that HGR is still around

ah...that darned probe...yea, I never use it, but maybe it loads with the probe extended sometimes??? What if you just disabled the probe animation entirely? Would that work?

Just to be clear, I dont think the actual docking port is the cause of the issue. When that happens to me, it doesnt necessarily happens in or close to the part showing issues. Could be any other part in the craft,  anywhere!

Good point in general. In this case almost every thing about this station is 'tried and true' from previous station designs. The HGR docking ports are the new addition, so more likely to be the culprit.
