There's a Stargate on the Mun!

I find it rather annoying that everyone seems to think they are the first in the world with this discovery. Instead of doing a search and some research we have to put up with these kind of threads each week.

I'm sorry to have ruined your day. I feel so awful. :(

Seriously? Jeebs finds his/her first Mun artifact (maybe their first artifact, period) and instead of a "Good work! Lots of people have found them but it takes quite a bit of work to find them if you don't know where to look!" or something along those lines, you get "annoyed". Well my friend, you have my permission to get over yourself.

@Jeebs - good work! I still haven't managed to find one yet, although with my munbase up and running it shouldn't take much longer.

Thanks Warshawski! I (a male btw) honestly didn't post this to brag that I found an easter egg and wanted to just jokingly say it was a Stargate (which I'm still inclined to believe is one  ). Like I said before, I thought it was a glitch.

My new mission tonight is to find this Mun arch and land close to it or on top of it if possible. :D

Everyone is giving explanations that it's natural formation. What if it's of extra extraterrestrial origin? ;) A sort of stone hendge?

I've had at least 3 kerbals and 2 rovers destroyed by the Munarch I found. The first kerbal exploded when colliding with the inside surface of the Munarch as he was trying to fly through it. I assumed that the collision itself was to blame. The next kerbal exploded whilst walking under the Munarch, in mysterious circumstances. I sent a rover up next, and it was able to drive loops through the arch without issue. The next kerbal who walked through it also exploded, as did the next rover.

Is anyone else having similar experiences? I haven't seen it mentioned in my forum surfing.

As far as the origins of the arch, I think it's fairly obvious that they were put there by aliens. Maybe even a sentient space robot that talks and sounds like Leonard Nimoy.

That's funny. I thought it sounded like Bart LaRue.

When iron-bearing lava encounters an intense magnetic field, it may exhibit properties of a ferrofluid and form arcs along the magnetic lines of force. As the lava cools, these arcs would be fixed in position. This could be how the arch formed on the Mun

That has been mentioned before in some thread or another but no one could come up with an explanation. Prior to KSP 0.16 nothing exploded when it went under the arch. Many of my rovers went through the arches without any mishap (prior to 0.16). It might be due to a wrong mesh but it also could be intentional. Your guess is as good as mine.

Actually, my guess is probably worse than yours. My current plan is to find a way to nuke it from orbit :P

Edit: The good thing is that I now have a bunch of spare spacecraft gathered around the Munarch, so I don't have to worry about anyone getting stuck there any more.

So far the arches have proven to be indestructible. You'll sooner destroy KSP than the arch. (But hey, it'll probably be fun to try it anyway :D)

I have a standing theory that the arch(es) really are some kind of gate.

My recent attempts in 1.6 have shown that there really is some kind of 'barrier' when you go under them. Rather, I hopped there on foot with my Kerbal and upon going through, POOF "dead" I wasn't even going especially fast, honestly.

That leads me to believe this is intentional.

I think some day the devs might make it into some kind of portal. To where? who knows?

But otherwise, unless it's a massive bug, it makes no sense to kill things traveling through.

It's also large enough to fit any spacecraft that can be built as far as I can tell. This thing is enormous.

Actually, recent examination of the Apollo samples put doubt on the Giant Impact Theory.

Anyway... This is just a Mun Arch... Not a "star gate".

Calm down. Let him have his fun. He's new to this game and this is the first time he saw the Mun arch. Despite your new username, VincentMcBuzzkill still applies to you.
