Secondary keys

Recommended Posts

So I'm going to Settings to remap the keyboard (because IJKLHN makes no sense to my brain or fingers, especially when I have two sets of arrow keys just a few cm away).

And each key assignment has a Primary and a Secondary. In almost all cases (I would give examples if I could remember them or run browser and KSP at the same time) the Secondary is set to None.

What is a Secondary key assignment? When does one use it?

Just lets you set a second key to do the exact same thing.

I haven't used it much, but I have my Map View secondary key set to my 'Forward' mouse button.  Pressing the 'Forward' mouse button or 'M' will toggle map view.

Did the same for the 'Back' mouse button with screenshots.  Pressing the 'Back' mouse button or 'F1' will do a screenshot.

It's also handy to set up mapping on a joystick, and you can switch back and forth from the joystick and keyboard without remapping every time.

Also thought I'd mention that I'd set my 'Forward' mouse button to cycle symmetry count int the SPH/VAB.  Makes editing a bit smoother since I don't have to take my fingers off of WASD when placing parts.

I set my numeric keypad as secondary for the rotation WASD keys.   When I'm in "Translation" mode, they still stay in "Rotation" so I can use WASD for translation and keypad for rotation.  I have difficulty dealing with the middle-keyboard IJKHNL stuff for translation.
