I don't understand how money works

Recommended Posts

I started a brand new career mode in moderate difficulty. The starting funds is 15k and the rewards have 90% multiplier. The only mods installed are KER and Final Frontier.

I accept the first two missions, obtain science and launch first vehicle with completion rewards of 2,880 and 5,760. So if I complete both missions, I expect my bank account to show 15,000 + 90%*2,880 + 90%*5,760 = 22,776, right? Possibly a bit less as I would lose a little bit due to salvage costs.

However, when I make a simple rocket and complete both missions, I end up with 37,998 in my bank account. Where did the extra 15,000 or so come from? Is this is a bug?

Edit: Also I started with 0.0 science points. Both missons had a +1 science reward so I should have ended up with +2*0.9 = 1.8 science, right? However my science total was 14.8 after the first two missions.

Forgot to mention another aspect of the problem.

2 option:

1) you are taking back part of your vehicle, so you save some cost

2) during the first flights you win a nice amount of money thanks to the " world first" organization, for breaking speed and altitude records

Thanks, you pointed me in the right direction. There are "invisible" contracts for altitude, and speed etc. as you say which reward you automatically for achieving milestones. I found some info here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/220200/discussions/0/620712364033895069/

It's even possible to fund your space program entirely with these World's-First/milestone rewards:

Contracts have an "advance" and "completion" reward. By accepting the mission, you get some money (realistically the money you would need to build the vehicle) and by completing the mission you get the reward money.

To fulfill the first contract you had to perform an experiment (because that's that the contract is for). And performing experiments gets you additional science points. That's the main way you get them, is to go around all the biomes and do science experiments.

I assumed that the 90% multipliers are already factored in when contract rewards are displayed, was I mistaken about that?

No, you are correct. All the multipliers are already in.
