BTW, have you ever searched for Pi day pie?

I don't have to do much searching. My local grocery store had an entire bin full of pies strategically placed right by the front entrance the other day. And the social committee at work is having pies delivered to the lunch room today at 1:59.

Unfortunate Unexpected Death + Happy day = uhhhhhh.

Reminds me when this whole May the 4th be with you thing was on Dutch War Memorial day.

I love Pi, i use it all the time for designing circle gizmos.

Squaring the circle.

Assuming the sphere has a radius of 1 and the squares' edges have a length of sqrt(pi) ...

Or so. Or different. Or similar.

Cubing the sphere, actually. The cube and the sphere have equal volume. 4/3πr3 = x3.

22/7?

355/113 is much better!

More accurate? Yes. But better? Define  better. Multiplying with 22/7 can be done without a calculator. 355/113 is much harder in that sense. If 22/7 yields good enough results, it's much better for that reason.

It all depends on what's defined as better.

all nerds of this world

This is where I get mildly grumpy because there's precisely one country in the world that localises dates as <month>.<day>. :) We get where you're coming from, but it just doesn't work for me.

Better than my dad, who has been in the hard sciences much longer and just grunts "twenty-two sevenths!"

And this is why the 22nd of July is the one true Pi Day.

I think what you're looking for is the 3rd of Qawl, or 25th of November.

At least for this year.

But I defer to my own calendar otherwise.

Seriously, 22/7 is a good approximation for all yearly dates are going to get you (some extra accuracy sometimes each 100 years if arranged to m.d.y 3.14.15) .

EDIT : Some better goodness.

Aw...  that means you don't get Star Wars Day either!     "Fourth of May be with you" just doesn't make any sense.
