Ahh, clever! You jettisoned everything from the front so you could keep the same engine. So I guess the answer is the Mun is doable, but you have to come up with one kind of workaround or another for the stock parts. I'm tempted to take what I've learned from these rockets and try to apply it to my copter design, to see if I can squeeze even more dV out that way...

I tested on the launch pad, with a solar panel on top of the probe core, a thermometer, and the antenna. I set the core to hibernate, SAS off, and the antenna set to allow partial. As the solar panel generates electricity, the antenna temporarily stores up the charges and transmits bit by bit.

Ah, I had forgotten that partial transmission was still an option. I wonder if removing the battery (10kg from a 120kg-dry-mass rocket) would have freed up enough dV to circularize...

Why circularise around the Mun when you could slingshot onwards to Duna 

You may even have enough dV to go direct!

Not sure where else you can get to going around Duna, but in all seriousness, once you have enough juice to get to Eve with a little dV to spare you can go pretty much anywhere.

Under one ton to the mun SOI is totally doable ... copied @TheFlyingKerman's design just to see if it could be done

Couldn't make it from the launchpad or the runway so I put the Juan Tun on top of the highest mountain in the area of the KSC and launched from there

0.995 tons without the launcher base ... this was fun

Ah Doc you needed to aim your feather light veehickle at Kerbin and miss...

some would say that means orbiting lol

 Correct me if I am wrong but I think you just delayed the standard launch pad explosion

to when you came back (aka sub-orbital) lol. Actually if you had a few dv at most should be easy to change the perigee at the apogee.
