Troublesome start-up...

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody, I purchased Kerbal Space Program earlier today, via Steam. Everything worked well until I tried to run the actual application. Initially, it stopped responding in the loading screen once it was completely loaded. I kind of 'fixed' that by running it as administrator and selecting another window during the entire process. When I finally reached the main menu and started a new game, it crashed. I re-opened and tried to resume the saved game, and it crashed. I think I have reached to visualize the actual game twice, but not for too long until it crashes again. By now, I am not sure if there's a pattern, it just seems to be completely random. Sometimes it crashes after it loads, sometimes when trying to resume the only saved game I currently have, and sometimes when the Kerbal Space Center appears on screen and I start to tweak the buttons.

This is my latest error.log: http://www.mediafire.com/file/asrbaofg25j2d8b/error.log/file

My system specifications:

- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz

-  Memory: 4 GB RAM (3.17 GB usable)

- Operating system: Windows 7 32 bits

- Display adapter: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000

Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

Welcome to the forum :)

Unfortunately, @Xd the great is right: it looks like you run out of memory. You can try to increase the paging file (you can google how to do it) or reduce some details in your video settings. You can use the launcher to change settings even without launching the game (but you should never launch the game through the launcher). Steam probably offers to start the launcher or you can start it with the launcher.exe in your KSP install directory.

You have too little RAM.

Use a more powerful computer.

Oh, what a pity! I refused to accept that possibility. Thank you both for your answers.

There are programs out there that can reduce the amount of ram being used by other apps by shutting them down.    This might allow you to play the game, but given the age of your machine.... well you could buy more RAM for it pretty cheaply (I'd assume), but that won't help that much since your OS is only 32 bit.     So Short of buying a new machine, you'll have to maximize the amount of RAM you have available to KSP.  KSP can and will run on a 32 bit system with 4gb RAM, at least it used to.   The new version of Unity may cause more hurdles....

It's actually a bit more complicated: while 32bit Windows can only adress 4GB of RAM, it will only give 2GB to any running application. You can try to raise that limit but it will most likely not solve the problem but only delay the inevitable crash.
