I have landed and returned a rocket to the Mun and orbited Minimus.However there are a few Kerbanaughts stranded.There is a command module orbiting Kerbin. There are also a few stuck on the Mun (bad landings - rocket blew up but command survived). There are two rockets orbiting the star.Anyway is it possible without mods to rescue these guys. One way I can think of off hand to get those Kerbs down is EVA some of the crew prior to launch and rendezvous with the stranded Kerbonauts, repeat as necessary. OK, funnest? put some extra ladders on the re-entry vehicle, and have the rescued Kerbs hang on and take a ride. ...and don't listen to any naysayers that insist that they won't be able to hold on. Commander Zoom Posted August 29, 2012 Share Posted August 29, 2012 To clarify a little, what you want to do is start a new mission, and have some of the kerbals get out (go EVA) on the launch pad so that you have room in the command pod for the pilots you're going to rescue.You can make things a little easier if you download one mod, called a "Crew Tank", which is basically an extra empty command pod just for holding kerbals, for situations like this. babaton Posted August 29, 2012 Share Posted August 29, 2012 I too have some kerbals floating in the deeps of spce, how the hell do you plot a trajectory to rendevous with them though.It's not like a kerbal has a huge gravitational field to pull you in, you'd have to be very precise with your orbit.Is there any way to set a waypoint on the nav ball? Match orbits with the objective: same plane, but slightly lower altitude. This will give you a slightly higher speed, and wait to catch up with the stranded ship or person. Once you get within about 20km, you can start carefully steering toward the target with RCS, almost as if you're both not moving. The key is setting up the conditions and letting time do most of the work. It can take several orbits to get into position. Just be patient and keep using small burns.
