Can you increase how fast you throttle?(Not Z,X but the Shift,Ctrl)

Recommended Posts

I was curious if i can increase how fast the throttle changes with Shift and Ctrl.I know about the Z and X i just wanted to still control it but in a faster manner in these tough landing situations without having to resort to activating/deactivating engines or limiting thrust.

I've found that pressing shift/control doesn't add a fixed amount of throttle, but it's based on how long I hold it. By doing a really quick tap, I've somehow been able to adjust it by 2-3% increments. For a "normal" length press, I seem to get about 8-10%. Unfortunately it's not completely reproducible, so sometimes I get more or less than expected from a single press.

The problem is how long i need to hold shift until i reach 50-60% throttle.I wish we could modify that to be less or more time.

Yeah, I was doing some testing at one point and thought I would see how throttle settings mattered by, say, hitting SHIFT 5 times before launch, then 6, 7, etc. I quickly came to realize that sometimes 6 taps would end up being more throttle than 7. It seems like a macro might be able to address this by having the macro correspond to holding down the CTRL/SHIFT key for X milliseconds. Then you could adjust the macro as needed. I don't know a good way to implement that though.

That's because what a sane person would consider 110% power, Kerbals think of as 95% or so.

Reminds me of one of the most delightfully Kerbal aspects of real-life spaceflight -- the later Space Shuttle Main Engines ran at 109% throttle.

There have been plenty of times I could have used an extra 10-15% oompf from the engines.  It certainly shouldn't be "free", have it make the engines overheat, get an ISP hit, be unable to overthrottle while gimbled, something.

But the point is, if the game's attitude is that the engines should never go above 100%, that's fine, but then why is it part of the indicator?
