Pawelk198604
My rocket is capable reaching Minimus and back when i use MecheJeb, but i want to do it myself. I can send capsule to Mun and Back without MecheJeb, now i want send spacecraft manually Minimus and need to knew how calculate proper transfer orbit., I would be grateful for your help. IWantSumCrusha
I would love to help, but I have no idea. I can get to mun on my own but in not sure about minmus, I'm sure there is a thread around which gives the steps to do it
Cby
Yes! A question I know exactly how to answer!First get an orbit of about 100 - 100.Next wait till Minmus rises, line up your capsule and Minmus from the map view and when Kerbin moves out of it's way.Burn towards Minmus and watch your apoapses (how the hell do you spell it) until it gets to the point where it intersects the line that is Minmus orbit. Unless you are lucky, you will be on an orbit that is higher or lower then Minmus's. That's ok.Time warp till you are half way to your apo..thing. If you are below Minmus orbit, burn north till It gets into Minmus's SOL.If you are above Minmus orbit, burn south. Then the rest is just like a Mun orbit. Pawelk198604
I mean which way to direct the spacecraft with the normal equatorial prograde orbit in which fire engines at what angle, sending to Mun it's easy, I suspect that anyone who has had to deal with for a few days is able to do even a kid, but Minimus is different story, it's difficult, it will be nice to have posiblity to calculate proper burning time in KSP without using MechJeb. Ziff
Minmus is only 6 degrees off from Kerbin's plane. This means that there are 2 possible launch windows where we could end up on the same plane as Minmus. One would launch at 84 degrees, the other at 96 degrees, depending on Kerbin's rotation. It is relatively easy to time your launch so you end up in orbit on the same plane and then only have to do a single injection burn using the same method as you would to go to the Mun. I did a write up on how to time the launch with some photo's in this thread here -> Minmus Direct Transfer
Nibb31
You can do it exactly as you would aim for the Mun (wait until Minmus is over the horizon to burn). The only difference is that you need to do a mid-course correction burn to an inclination change so that you intersect with Minmus's orbit. To do that, put yourself in Normal or antinormal (point "up" or "down" on the elliptic plane) and burn. You should see your orbit move up or down. Vespasianus
I have problems to spot Minmus from space. It's ok from the surface of Kerbin and the Mun, but in space I simply can't find it... Can someone please help me? Cheers! Vanamonde
First tip: line up the map screen view so that Minmus is in the middle of the screen, then look the background sky and find some easy-to-recognize constellation or part of the galactic cloud. Then return to the main view and pan the camera around until the view matches the background sky you saw on the map screen. You should then be looking right at Minmus. Second tip: it is the only object in the KSP sky that twinkles. If you're looking at some stars and one of them isn't constant, it can only be Minmus. Vespasianus
Thanks! I'll try it
TheDarkStar
Get a orbit with the size of Minmus's orbit, then do a plane change. Bring a small lander, it doesn't have much gravity.
