I actually never tried it but I kinda doubt that it works. As soon as the claw grabs something, it becomes part of your vessel. While it would be pretty kerbal to build a spaceship out of a planet, I don't think that it is possible

No you can't if the ground is a planet or moon. Yes you can if the ground is an asteroid.

well, i was trying to build attach-to-the-planet-stationary-submarine-thingy (attpsst) so i guess i'll need KAS
