What is a save game?

Hi there!   Welcome to the forums!

A save game is just that, a saved game.    As you play the game, the game automatically saves as you go along, so it can load from the same point when you start it up again.

So you are saying that I just have to wait until it automatically saves to load surface features?

No, surface features are automatically generated with a new game that starts in 1.7.1.     If you import older saves from older versions, the surface features will not be present.

How do I start a new savegame?

I split this post from the thread I linked, and placed it here, as it was somewhat Off topic for that thread.

A save game is the game you are playing in KSP.   When you start playing KSP, you are given the choice of a Career, Sandbox, or science game, and then you have to name it.

That named game is your "savegame".

You can't play KSP without having one.

Have you played KSP yet?

Hi i’m New here. I watched shadowzone’s breaking ground video and he said to find surface features I need a new savegame. What is a savegame?

So in "Kerbal Space program" folder, there is a folder. that contains the numerous "saves" you have started.

Now while there are ways so that you can get the new features in the old save game, considering you are confused by the "savegame", and even saying "savegame is not saving a game", it means editing will likely mess up your the savefile, and instead recommend you to just start a new save. (You basically have to do some coding)

I have to say, KSP's "save game" system does take a little bit of work to understand it. You have "master" game saves, then within each of those you can have a "subfolder" quicksave, BUT still, even under that, you can have a lot of "quicksaves" within the "quicksave", so that's where my confusion was when I first started playing the game. It is quite obvious now, but much like getting into orbit, it'll become second nature once the light bulb comes on. I got worried i was going to lose my progress at almost every game session, so I started a bazillion "quicksaves" within my game, and about a billion gazillion "F5" quicksaves in those quicksaves. I was gonna make sure I had it----lol now, i understand and don't do it quite as much anymore...
