Unable to select parts

New install of version 1.7.1. 

We are unable to select parts to build a rocket. The mouse only drags the parts up and down within the parts window. I've googled around and found that this seems to have something to do with missing files, but all instructions I find are from 2015 or older and don't seem to be relevant anymore (the directory structure for the current game install is very different than what the older posts describe) . 

So, two questions:

1) How do I correct the problem of unable to select parts (this occurs in the tutorial and sandbox so far)?

2) If the (seemingly common) missing files are the problem, how to a remedy?

It looks like from my research that an uninstall and reinstall does nothing to correct the issue, at least in the past. I have not tried that route yet.

Redownload and re-install.   If you Have a steam install, you can verify the install, and it shoyld fix the issue.

There should be no game play reason for parts to not be selectable in sandbox.   If the reinstall doesn't work, please post your output.log file to a site like dropbox and link it here so we can take a look.

Do you try to drag & drop the parts from the part window into the editor? You actually need to click on them

@4x4cheesecake I tried several variations, nothing worked.

 

I did an uninstall, re-download, and re-install, and everything seems to work now.
