A Mun science explorer (BG)

Recommended Posts

I wanted to find some (semi-)practical uses for robotic parts and  first came up with this Munar science explorer.

Here it is in de-orbit and landing configuration...

Then we rotate the hinge ready for driving...

and then after some science work we return the capsule to upright and the return sub-craft sets off back to Kerbin...

How do you fit that thing on a rocket?

I used the middle attachment point of the rear structural panel to attach a decoupler. Just stick it on top of a rocket and small transfer stage then.

Could you post a screenshot of it?  I'm having trouble visualizing.  Txs! :)

(I'm trying to learn how to do this kind of thing)

Fantastic.  Thank you!  I never would have guessed something could fly like that!

Rules of Kerbal Engineering:

  1. Need to go faster? Moar Boosterz.
  2. Need to flop around less? Moar Strutz.
  3. Need to keep your weird, draggy thing pointed the right way? Moar Finz (at the bottom).
  4. Need to cool down your flying monstrosity as it plows through the atmosphere? Moar Heetsheeldz.

Or you can learn to build more reasonable stuff that will fit inside a fairing and be properly balanced and all that. But then how are you going to get a washing machine into orbit?
