Why KSP looks like what it does?!

I'm going to assume by the look of that software that is why KSP looks like what it does. The colors and everything look identical in many ways. I assume this is the inspiration. Why not add some of that functionality to the aircraft stuff? I still want a fill empty all fuel in the vehicle areas....

It's more the shades and colors are very similar. I figured they used that type of software as a basis as it was similar to existing software that is part of at least plane software in real life. IE, we are flying in the software from real life! 8)

Do one of the devs who did that part of the game fly a plane. Maybe they were familiar in real life somehow. It would make the game make sense to a large degree.

Either way, we could get more of those software features and maybe finer controls and auto controls from such inspiration! It could be nice to hash out planes. It would help rockets too I would imagine.

I wonder what type of modeling if any those programs use? Do they simulate for autopilot function to predict things?

I'd never seen that software before. So, I would have no of knowing that.

There was a change in graphics to some extent before 1.0. Did this change to this or was the terrain already the same? I wonder who flew planes and had seen this before. Or can you get such software online?

At the video starting time he has software running in two little screens. It looks a lot like parts of KSP. Especially the colors etc.

Ah right, I see.  Those are Chartplotters or "Multi-Function Displays" (MFDs - see https://www.thegpsstore.com/Chart-Plotters-C201.aspx, for example).  They are electronic navigation screens (and more), usually guided by GPS and became popular in all types of vehicle - boats, planes, spacecraft (!) over the past few decades,

They started in fighters and other very expensive planes simply because those were the ones with the complex, modern, avionics to support them.  I'm picking random examples from the internet just for the pictures but you may also like https://bestfighter4canada.blogspot.com/2013/10/cockpits.html

Amongst everything that is new/different you should see several features that you recognise including, yes, the standard colours for the navball and charts.

Space simulator ?

*Sigh*  Show some people the stars and all they see is ...

(OK, I'm kidding.  I know you can do all the rocket stuff if you want to and it's no problem that cars are possible too.  I just don't see why anyone would want to.  That's just me though, I have several flight and ground-vehicle simulation programs so I don't need to do the same thing in a program that does spacecraft so well.  Even there, I don't understand why people want to add all the shooty stuff and self-defined 'capital ships' or whatever, especially as they're almost inevitably built the wrong way around.  When Squad bring out "Kerbal Vehicle Program" then great (don't tell T2), until then "To infinity and beyond"!  Oh ****, now look what you made me do).

Green is ground, blue is sky... I guess those screens is where Squad got there inspiration from. Where else would they come up with that, after all.

This is the best thing I've read on this forum in the 2 years I've been here. Mind if I quote that in my sig?

@Pecan

I see KSP more as a building simulator then a space simulator, plus the fact the game is so easy to mod and has a large community is why I love this game so much.

Yeah, understood.  It is cool that KSP just lets people do whatever their thing is.  My thing just happens to be rockets :-)
