strider3
Santa, I've been "fairly" good this year. One thing I would especially like is a usable "Contracts" system in KSP2...pretty please. No more getting into orbit of Kerbin and contracts become "fly by the Mun". No more performing one rendezvous and docking in low Kerbin orbit and contracts become "Land on the Mun". Slow the Roll, Big Daddy Yuletide! I don't see why performing one single contract in Kerbin orbit leads to all these impossible to attain contracts after? Baby Steps, Big Daddy...baby steps. Why do contracts around Kerbin have to go away...even after I've landed on Eve or Eeloo? There should always be "close in" contracts available to me, so that when I lose my butt at the Dres Red Sands Casino, I can make a few quick Funds before Vinnie and Vito show up to collect? Just sayin'.
Chilkoot
We don't have any definitive ansewer on it yet, but the impression I get from the interviews is that Star Theory has thrown the entire science gathering and contracts framework out the window in favour of a new system (just called "Progression") with a series of milestone unlocks as the new core mechanic. They've stated rather clearly that this is how offworld bases would progress, with some hints that the design principle will be game-wide. That doesn't mean something like "establish a geostationary comms satellite" or even "return a sample of mun rocks to KSC" are not milestones, but I think they'll be presented to us as goals of the space program in general, which will unlock things for us when we achieve those goals. Getting kind of speculative at this point, but this is my impression based on an array of hints spread over several interviews and statements. Superfluous J
Amusingly, I tend to find myself being annoyed that the contracts are holding me back from what I want to do. I'm ready for Duna, why do I have to do a frickin' Minmus spacewalk first? (Note disclaimer you don't have to do any of these things you can do what you want and ignore the contracts. But still...) Note that in case of debts space ships - and indeed suits - may be siezed in lieu of payment before guests are evicted via the spaceport airlocks. I find with career mode that - as much as a promise myself I won't with every fresh start - I purposefully avoid advancing so that I can just game the near-Kerb tourist industry for a few dozen 4-passenger launches. That plus cheesing the KSC biomes usually seeds me enough to set up some kind of mining loop to make infinite money and forget about contracts. Yes, I feel bad about myself for always doing this, but the progression mechanics are just so... tedious. I *love* the milestones in career mode and receiving funds and science for those, but the contract and science gathering system needs to either be completely revamped or binned entirely. That reminds me: anyone know if the deployable science stations are working now in 1.8? I had to blow all mine away in 1.7.x due to the alerts bug.
