Editor copy and undo problems with fuel priority and quantity

Recommended Posts

Hi all. You can follow along these steps in the VAB to reproduce these errors in KSP 1.9.1. I'm on Win 10.

1. open a new model

2. place a Mk1 command pod

3. RMB menu on the pod: reduce the monopropellant quantity and also change the flow priority. RMB away to close menu

4. place any MK1 rocket fuel tank below the pod. RMB it and reduce liquid fuel and/ or oxidizer levels and also change the flow priority. RMB away to close menu

5. use ALT + LMB to make a copy of the tank and attach below the first tank. The second tank should be an exact copy of the first... it is NOT. The fuel priority was copied but fuel quantity was reset to default. Copy: FAIL.

6. Press CTRL-Z. Second tank is erased as expected. But SURPRISE there's more you can't see. RMB the first fuel tank. Note the fuel quantity and priority have both been reset to default values. Undo: FAIL

7. Press CTRL-Z again. First tank is erased as expected. Now RMB the command pod. The fuel quantity and priority have both been reset to default values. Undo: FAIL again

If you have a big model and change many fuel levels and priorities sequentially, then move something by mistake and undo it... it will undo the move and ALL the fuel priority/ level changes back until there was a second visible change to the model. All of those changes are undone without warning. Terrible!

I'm a hardware engineer, no software expert, but this is some very basic stuff here, like CS101 stuff. And we still can't press ESC to cancel a move command. GAAAA!

I was in another recent discussion on this.  I run my main game on 1.8.1 but also have 1.9.1 installed as a test to use it when all mods finally start working.  So to check the situation, I did the test on both 1.8.1 and 1.9.1 and found no problems whatsoever.  Everything behaved as predicted even though this is noted as an official bug in 1.9.1.

I have about 70 mods installed but the only ones I think that might possibly make a difference here are Restock and Configurable Containers (which allows you to modify fuel tank size, type etc. (not an experienced modder by the way so this is just a guess)

Sorry if this is a repeat topic. 1st post was was with zero mods.

I now have mods re-installed and it behaves the same as before for me. So perhaps something in ardhiebald's mods that's not in my mods is actually circumventing this issue?

It seems that there is a slightly different manifestation of the copy glitch that applies to copies created by symmetry.

If a symmetrically placed part with tweaked resources is detached and reattached, or a single part is detached and reattached with increased symmetry.

If the PAW for the original or any copy is opened in the editor prior to launch then the part will inherit the correct values and be ok. if the PAW is not opened prior to launch however then only the original will retain its resource tweaks, the copies will be at default resource values.

If an affected flight is then reverted to the editor, then the original and copies will all inherit the resource values of whichever PAW is opened first (tweaked if the original is opened first, default if a copy)
