How to do a crewed Duna and/or Eve flyby?

Recommended Posts

I want to do missions along the lines of TMK and the NASA Manned Venus Flyby missions, the latter of which had a flight plan involved a triple flyby- Venus, Mars, and then Venus again. I am wondering if flybys like this are possible in KSP.

Specifically the following plans-

1. Duna, then Eve

2. Only Duna

3. Only Eve

4. Eve, then Duna, then Eve

I have conducted a "sort of flyby" to Duna, but after flying by the spacecraft just went into solar orbit and I had to use the onboard engines to correct the course for return to Kerbin. This might be normal, but from what I can tell real life flyby plans involve few or no burns after TMI/TVI. In any case (whether it actually does involve burns or not) I am wondering how to conduct flyby missions to Eve and Duna.

I am playing the game stock and in sandbox.

well, of course the mission is possible. you need to get the right gravity assist from duna to get into an eve intercept trajectory.

now, the basics of gravity assists is that if you pass in front of the planet you decelerate, and if you pass behind the planet you accelerate. so, to get to eve, you want to lower your solar periapsis, you need to decelerate, you definitely want to pass in front of duna. to reach eve at the first orbit, though, requires special planetary alignment, and i'm not sure how much you'd have to wait for a chance like that
