any good ways to decrease the ram usage without getting rid of mods?

  • reduce the texture sizes (if possible) within some mods (ie if using AVP use the 2K textures, not the 8K or 43K texture packs).
  • Some mods use .png files for textures. It's time consuming. but you could convert them to .dds to save some memory space without removing the mods (any of these changes will be overwritten by any subsequent mod update)
  • Identify the parts from your mods that you *NEVER* use and delete all related configuration and texture files.  (again these will be replaced by a mod update )
  • Don't expect huge RAM savings from doing these things. They will reduce memory usage a little.

I had problems, so I upgraded my ram, now it runs good

of course, no pc is gonna run 4000 mods ksp with 60 fps

but good ram is from my experience very good

I would suggest you to have atleast 16GB, and recommended 32GB or even 64GB

Unless you absolutely need them, try deleting the interior views for modded parts. A complex and detailed IVA can use up a decent chunk of memory when loaded and more when in flight so deleting them might help; it’s not entirely risk free of course but for mods with many crew parts and/or detailed IVAs (e.g. station parts expansion redux) the difference can be significant.

KSP has had a major memory leak since 1.2

The larger the gamesave/persistent file the faster the ram will increase on changing scenes, and the more ram that is being used also means the longer it will take to change scenes or load a quicksave

Delete all unnecessary crafts from your KSP universe like Debris is one important thing.

Also try to make your crafts as small as you can, the bigger the craft the bigger the gamesave/persistent file, which means the same above issues
