Planetary Upgrades

Recommended Posts

We know that while the rough location, size, and spirit of the Kerbol system planets aren’t changing (except maybe Dres?) the overall landscapes are getting a huge stylistic overhaul. What are some cool features you’d like to see?

Laythe—white rolling sands, wispy cirrus clouds, and maybe bleached coral heads and stromatolites emerging from tidal plains.

Duna—dusky sand storms, wind devils, CO2 glaciers at the poles, and perhaps a few isolated hot springs.

Eve—Extensive signs of volcanic activity—broad basalt plains, calderas, fissures spewing gas, ranges of tectonic crumpling and uplift, and oceans of sulfuric acid.

Any other cool ideas?

Duna—dusky sand storms, wind devils...

Did you notice the blowing dust in the most recent show and tell video? Looks like we are getting some effects like that for sure.

Cool ideas: parts discolor and become covered with dust depending on the environment. Rovers become filthy. Kerbals come out on their own to clean solar panels and windows after a dust storm.

I just want some nice handcrafted natural vistas to be found. Maybe like a grove in a caldera with a lake, colored salt flats, waterfalls, etc...

I just want to see some natural beauty

I feel it's quite important to improve the air-less locations, especially considering just how uninteresting they are after one or two landings.
Pol looks absolutely amazing, and a huge step up from how it was before. More stuff like this for the other places would be great.

All of them in general should have memorable terrain, with great big tall mountains to be scaled, long valleys to be travelled in, and extremely deep craters, some of which should have never seen contact with Kerbol's light for millions of years.

Basically what he said but lamer. (Also some columnar basalt would be great to see. Just set up a tiny outpost, with a floating port, and you've got the perfect vision of a 'Kerbal hermit who just found all the massive ships and interstellar travel too exhausting, and decided to just settle down without Kerbal contact.)

Here are some things I could think of at the top of my head:

I would love to see footsteps and wheel tracks, especially on sandy planets and moons like the Mun or Duna.

Ocean waves would be nice as well.

Steep cliffs and canyons. (That one's pretty much confirmed)

Changing weather and different climate regions.

Flowing lava and possibly even active volcanos.
