jinnantonix
I missed this challenge, otherwise I would have definitely entered. I am interested in DART. The pessimist in me says that this mission will show that asteroids are typically not solid rock, but are like powder. So an impacter may not have a huge effect on trajectory. On the other hand, we are learning that asteroids comprise of many hydrogen compounds, that could be mined and used to "push" the asteroid. Here is a video demonstrating that technique. I think DART is a super important mission because it will determine if impacting is a viable technique. Good luck NASA. Bro, not to burst the bubble, but I don't know if your Asteroid Day submission would be accepted... and DART is nowhere to be seen... I don't know... it might be off the mechanics of the contest? Are entries still being taken? I might have a go at this, but will take a day or three to complete.
Lewie
Here's my entry! Spoiler Launch is nominal, DART is on its way! MECO and Boostback burn Boostback burn complete, RTLS trajectory is nominal 3 engines relit switch to center engine touchdown!!!! Second stage carries on to orbit SECO and fairing separation Orbital insertion Injection burn DART deployment Solar panel deployment DART is now all alone mid-course correction burn there you are! YEET Not a huge change, but I'll take it! I had a lot of fun with this mission...Real life has been hectic lately, hence my submission is just a mere 3 hours before the challenge closes

I tried to be as close to real-life DART as possible, and packaged it up in a neat little cinematic - I hope you enjoy! I love this so much. The ROSA (RollOut Solar Array ) module deserves it's own post. I myself using it for surface ops, nicely packed, rolls out across the ground. I believe I reduced some wobbling as well for this standalone craft pulled from @TheDestroyer's DART submission. Download here

CoolRanchAJ
Thanks so much to everyone for submitting their videos! Really incredible stuff here, and I've been sharing them all with NASA contacts. I'll be creating a twitter thread for all of the entries that will go up in a bit, and NASA will be interacting with it over the next day. For those called out in the twitter thread, please DM the KSP account on twitter your mailing details so we can send you a little something as thanks. Please also include a link to your submission here in the forums.

I admit I didn't take it nearly as seriously as some of you did, especially in re-creating the Falcon 9... but then, it was hitting the limit of my skills to make the first stage recoverable at all. And, of course, I couldn't just leave it as impacting the target... I made three flights. Reveal hidden contents The first flight ended with the desired impact at about 660 m/s relative velocity to target, producing a small but definite deflection. I was able to recover the first stage, but in the time that took the rest of the ship went off-course and crashed, so I had to re-fly the mission to get that to orbit and beyond. For the second flight I soft-landed the same probe and used the ion engine to push. This also worked but not as well, mostly because the probe was in the asteroid's shadow and thus ran out of electricity fairly quickly. For the third flight I abandoned the DART model entirely and did it as I'd do it in a normal KSP campaign- in situ refining of fuel from the asteroid to redirect it. (Incidentally, grabbing the target with The Claw breaks the part of the mod that keeps it tidally locked.) That worked GREAT until I tried to use physics-warp to speed up the deflection, at which point the kraken objected.) Here's the edited video. Great submission, can't really call out your username on twitter.... sorry!
CoolRanchAJ
Heads up that I couldn't call out every single submission in the twitter thread as 1. there have been a TON! Super impressed with everyone, and 2. I can't share everything due to music issues. BUT, every submission was shared with NASA via email.
