I often struggle to find good new (not very famous) sci-fi (especially to do with space) to watch/read/listen, and I have occasionally encountered some fiction that I think is horribly underappreciated, so, if you know of such sci-fi, post here to tell others (since I'm fairly certain I am not the only person with this dilemma). :D

PSA:

If your bit of fiction is not completely forum rated, put a sentence about its age rating and the dangers for forum friendliness first in your post, and then put the rest of it in a spoiler box. (Spoiler boxes can be made by clicking on the eye on top of your post.)

My first one:

Caution: 13+ years, some medical operations and injuries in the first episode are not for the faint hearted. Other than that, no bad stuff for the whole 2 seasons (at least not in the first 3 episodes, but definitely no cursing).

Spoiler

National geographic's Mars series, half documentary (I usually skip those parts) half drama. A bit fast paced and short, but enjoyable (at least the first 3 episodes that I've watched).

Apparently you can watch it on Nat-Geo's website, but it only gives me error messages, maybe you will have better luck.

I've been watching it for free, here.

Did you know that Tsiolkovsky and von Braun wrote science fiction? I've been meaning to read their stories. They based their works on the technologies that they calculated would be possible with rockets.

I'm interested in early sci-fi, possibly because I'm old and remember reading books until daylight appeared...

I'm waiting for a movie of The Forever War (Joe Haldeman), it was announced years ago but doesn't seem to be happening.

The Star, a short story by Arthur C Clarke sticks in my head for some reason, and I haven't read it in 30 years.

i imagine they read like an engineering manual.

If Larry Niven's "Known Universe" literary universe (which encompasses dozens of novels, novellas, and short stories by Niven) set in the near and not-so-near future)  has ever intrigued you, then I also suggest the "Tales from the Man-Kzin Wars." It is at least a dozen of anthologies containing short stories and novellas  by other writers (and occasionally Niven) set in that same Universe and explores many different corners of Human-Kzinti relations.
