SSTO Lift/Takeoff (I am new)

Recommended Posts

Evening, I have recently tried building my own SSTO, but I have encountered a few problems. For some reason it looks like it does not have enough lift, even tho the wings are pretty big for its size.
Also, whenever I accelerate to like 100-150 m/s on the runway, the vehicles turns left or right.

I'm no SSTO or spaceplane expert, but that shot looks like you've got 1 wing on the left side that isn't replicated on the right.  Or, at the very least, if it is replicated, it's not in the same position.

Also, can you post shots from the SPH that show Center of Mass, Center of Thrust, and Center of Lift?  That will help everyone identify what might be holding this one back.  :)

The plane doesnt really wanna pitch up even if I run off runway and are above the ocean. I was under impression 4 wings of this size should be enough? Or are there other problems?
Is there a way to check if wings produce enough lift?

You have plenty of lift.  Your issue is that your Center of Lift is very very far from your Center of Mass.  This means the plane wants to nose down very strongly, and you do not have enough control authority to bring the nose back up.

You need your wings farther forwards, and/or larger pitch control surfaces, and/or pitch control surfaces that are farther from the Center of Mass.

Your problem isn’t lift, it’s where the lift is coming from. Your wings are too far back, so the lift is too far back, so the plane will pitch down. Add in the inadequate pitch control surfaces and the rear wheels being too far back and you’ll never get off the ground.

Put some canards on the nose with big control surfaces, they’ll balance your lift, provide much better pitch authority and will lift the nose up instead of pushing the tail down as with your current pitch control surfaces. Your landing gear looks wrong- swap to the next smaller gear on the nose and move the rear sets further forwards so they’re closer to the COM; you might also need a single small wheel right on the tail to avoid tail strikes on takeoff/landing.

Yes you want cancards and move the main wheels forward.  You want them just 1-2 meter behind center of mass, less on an smaller plane.
You can add wheels at the back and move them up, they are only there to prevent tail strike on takeoff and landings.
