Hi reader, this is my new story, it is QUITE pictureheavy. I tried to do this once before and it didn't work out.

Anyway, without farther ado, here is chapter 1.

March 19, 1946

Gold Sands Proving Site

An experimental rocket stood on the pad, which Wernher wished he had never designed. For he had made it for an evil nation to do evil deeds with it, and it made him feel no better that the nation was his home country and that he was forced to do so.  Then, a voice snapped him out of his thoughts. 

"Wernher, wake up, the rocket's done fueling!" It was Gene Kerman, Chief Controller.

"Huh?"

"The rocket is fueled, Wernher."

"Oh, that's good to-"

But he was cut off by a voice from the loudspeaker, "X-minus 12 minutes and counting."

11 minutes later...

"X-minus 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, ROCKET AWAY!"

Despite Wernher's regret for creating it, he was also glad that his own A-2 rocket was finally being used for science.

   It soared up into the stratosphere, and kept going from there.

Then, the engine cut off, and it still continued climbing, even without engine power. 

It eventually coasted to a height of 137 thousand feet, and to Gene and Wernher, it was near-impossible to see, even with binoculars.

Then, it fell out of the sky and smashed into the sand.
