Can't EVA right

Recommended Posts

I have just finished my Saturn V replica and everything is working fine, except for one thing. As the staging goes in the Saturn V, I need to EVA to the lunar module to dock it with the orbital module. However, I can not manipulate the RCS thrusters on the Kerbalnauts' suits properly and I always end up drifting away from the craft. As my name suggests, I am on PS4 and using the RCS on EVA suits is very difficult because using SAS doesn't work, I can't move up and down, only forward, backward, left and right, and rotating my Kerbal always ends up with a miscalculation on fixing it and me spinning out of control and flying away from my craft. Poor Valentina Kerman. She has drifted away about 15 times now. Either I'm piloting my craft wrong, or console KSP is really annoying.

Does the console allow adjusting the jetpack thrust limiter?  I think it is a 1.12.2+ thing but may have appeared earlier.  I don't know anything about the console versions but I know what I'd probably do in your situation:  save game, then repeatedly EVA and try button combinations until I figured them out, reverting to pre EVA save as required.  I know, brute force, but the advantage is that you will probably discover other useful things on the way to figuring out "up" and "down.  Also, on PC, going into and out of warp typically halts any rotations.  Kind of a cheat; well it is a cheat.  But fully justifiable if you are trying to figure out what the buttons do

Oh, well I play on the PS4 too and I think you haven't got the EVA controls right...

I can't move up and down

R2 for up, L2 for down

Yeah, I noticed that L1 and L2/R2 rotates the kerbal. This happens when I want to zoom in when I'm going up or down. To encounter it, turn RCS off and then on. Should work.

because using SAS doesn't work,

It does, I guess for EVA It makes you not spin out of control.

Search for rocket Man Dan on YouTube fella, he does some decent ps4 tutorials, I find Eva really easy now. It does take getting used to. Tip. Having SAS on locks your orientation the way the camera is facing and makes it a lot easier to use the up, down, left and right. You shouldn't really need to use the rotate. Ps. The triggers make the Eva suit go up or down.

Bst place to practice, get yourself to minmus. Land and then go out and play with your Eva packs. Then you shouldnt end up drifting I. Space :)
