Still loosing Map data when launching from Mun

While doing an Apollo style mun mission I loose Map data when launching from the mun. This happens consistently and specifically when I launch by staging with a coupling and an engine light simultaneously. I make a Mun lander with a decent and accent stage. for role play I leave my decent stage on Mun by shutting down the decent engine and setting staging to fire accent engine and coupling next while at full throttle. If I fire the coupling and then engine back to back it is fine. If I launch with decent stage and then separate it is fine. When sitting on Mun and I stage with both it fails. Map data fails to load in map mode and if I save and reload once in orbit it gives me a completely different orbit still with no map data.

So you are decoupling off a landed stage?

yes. sitting on the surface I have a bottom stage with landing gears and the engine turned off. There is a decoupler with an engine for the upper stage on top of that.

What data isn't loading?  Can you provide a screenshot?

AP is on there though. What happens when you get up higher? Unless AP is another bug.

It doesn't give info when I hover over it and it just follows my craft around. I was nowhere near the AP according to the hud info when taking that screenshot. Either way it is clearly glitched out at this point anyway

Ahh. Yeah different bug. I have experienced that one as well.

After a bit of testing, the cause of this glitch is decoupling while in a Landed state. The game is not recognizing that your vessel has left the ground when you decouple. While your vessel is considered Landed, no trajectory line shows up. It needs to switch to Suborbital for the trajectory to appear again. In order to trigger that, your vessel must touch terrain momentarily. It is sufficient to simply slide off of the descent stage and touch down for a fraction of a second.  Alternatively, fire up the descent stage just enough to get above the ground, then decouple.

From my attempts, staging order isn't making a difference.

Sometimes KSP1 has the same problem.

really? Because I do this kind of thing with landers all the time in KSP 1 and have never seen any issues. I also do not recall seeing my map data vanish.

I personally had it happen in 1.7 when I created a rocket+pad that launched from the Eve ocean. I also saw it happening in one of the more recent updates (maybe 2 years ago) for a streamer called EJ_SA.

KSP2 appears that it might be a little different. I hear the suborbital directions etc still happens verses KSP1 where it had no idea what do with a craft in the air but still landed at the same time
