files failed to validate

I checked the integrity of my game files and was told that "118 files failed to validate and will be reacquired"  what do I do to correct this?

Yup, that popup is telling you that Steam is about to fix it.

Was this a modded install? The Steam integrity check doesn't work correctly with mods... it gives false positives for corrupt files. Make a vanilla KSP Steam install, then check file integrity on that, then use CKAN to copy the Steam install to a new KSP instance, then add mods to the copy.
