Hello there!

I had long thought KSP sounded intriguing, but didn't get to trying it, and after announcements I thought, "well now I might as well wait for KSP2. " But I heard it was having a rough launch, and reconsidered that a bit. And then someone I know whose kid is really into space was asking for ideas; I gave him a copy of KSP1, then thought "I should check it out myself." Got hooked.

In Sandbox mode I've landed on Minmus and Mun and orbited Duna. In Career mode I am finding it harder to avoid being perfectionist; the time and budget limits really aren't severe and I should be optimizing a bit more for fun rather than for in-game time or budget. Have a few simultaneous tourist flyby flights going while waiting for my first Munar orbiter to  catch all the EVA reports on his polar orbit and return.

What are some of your best tips for "relax, have fun, and learn to git gud, rather than obsessing over stuff that doesn't efficiently contribute to those goals"?

Welcome to the forum @Anaxagoras:happy:

I bought a silly little game, went suborbital and then was flummoxed so I left the game for a while. I started watching youtubes about KSP and realized it was so much more than I understood at the time and I became enthralled.

The KSP Subway map + 20% for dV, when going to any new system I always add a stage that can house a few kerbals for rescue missions or a refueling rig for further operations. Depending on your settings it's always good to deploy coms wherever you are going.

I learned how to make biome hoppers and got tired of running out of fuel. So I started making mining vessels that could biome hop... Turns out that's a great way to open up all sorts of new ways to play the game that until that point just hadn't "clicked", sort of like the first time I realized that the map view went beyond Minmus (I was terrible at this game at first and I had to learn it on console).

It was like I had been in a room with a door I had assumed was locked- It wasn't locked, I just needed to take the time to explore the room I was in long enough to try the doorknob "just because I could".

Now I play KSP with the "Just because I can" attitude a lot more often because I've done it over, and over, and over... and it still offers new and surprising results to tease my curiosity to try again.

Welcome :D
