KSP1 New Career Mode Mod Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I want to get into career mode modding and am looking for some mods.

The types of mods I want are:

  • Better plane parts (Mk1, Mk2, Mk3)
  • Better SSTO and rocket engines
  • Better ion and nuclear engines
  • New fuel types
  • New career mission types
  • New science tools
  • Better colony and space station parts
  • Better optimization (for a potato PC)
  • Better tech tree

I don't want any visual mods. Should I use TURD or Lazy Paint for coloring? Can you guys help? I'm new to modding.

Aside From the Visual Packs..

Do Some research Bc some are not cross compatible with one another.

With the new clouds I dropped Astonomers  and spectra.

I get most of my enjoyment from the immersion mods that add to the career experience.

Once I get out of work I'll cull a list down to what I really love most and upload. At work now but wanted to respond so I wouldn't forget.

I just started a ScanSAT ay that's awesome. I'll start off by recommending

Contract Configurator

Cacteye Refocused (Adds Satelites that are amazing with Distant Object Enhancement)

ScanSAT

Contract Pack : Anomalies

Contract Pack: Constellations

Contract Pack: Research Advanced Division

Contract Pack; ScanSat Missions

Contract Pack: Tourism (One With Casino)

Some QOL that make the above easier and more engaging

Mechjeb2

Waypoint Manager

There are a couple more, Contract packs are my favorite thing about modded play. There are some more I can't remember or take the time post ATM.

Look forward to reading the recommendations and will he back later with Ckan import list.

The list above is great. The hardest part of modded play is knowing where to stop.
With a potato computer, you will have to watch your Ram  usage as you add mods.
TURD is great but it actually uses a lot of resources, so this is one that I will sometimes cut.

Contract Pack; ScanSat Missions

ScanSat contracts now come packaged with the ScanSat mod so there is no need to download the contract pack separately.

  • New science tools
    • Kerbalism's Science completely changed the game for me, that and ScanSat are my favorite Science gathering modes.
    • DMagic Orbital Science
    • MOAR Station Science
  • Better colony and space station parts
    • Stockalike Station Parts Redux
    • HabTech2
    • PlanetSide Exploration Technologies
    • MOAR Station Science
  • Better optimization (for a potato PC)
    • KSP Community Fixes
  • Better tech tree
    • Community Tech Tree
    • Kiwi Tech Tree
    • Probes Before Crew
    • Unkerballed Start
    • QUARTIX/TETRIX/SIMPLEX Trees

As a general rule for parts, all of Nertea's Near Future part mods are recommended. There's also BluedogDesign Bureau and Tantares which are incredibly popular but I get overwhelmed by the sheer number of parts there.

Should I download all of them or just one?

Can you suggest some SSTO part mods? Thanks, by the way

RAM isn't a problem; I have 8GB of it, but I have a bad CPU. I guess it's below average, but it's not super bad

Just one tech tree mod, choose the one that fits the way you want to explore the game. 8GB is pretty low for KSP, you'll want to limit your mods, especially particularly big ones with lots of textures.

Just one. It's kind of hard to pick when you're starting off but Community Tech Tree is probably the simplest as it just expands the current Tree. I would recommend checking the forum page for each tree to check for supported mods.

OPT Legacy, Marv IV Spaceplanes, Mk2 Expansion and Mk3 Expansion.

KSP does take up a lot of RAM especially when using mods, I would advise being careful with the number of mods you add or at least be prepared for your save to be cut short because of performance.

Do you know any mods for Mk1 too?

Not sure, maybe Kerbal Aircraft Expansion and Airplanes plus. I'm not too interested in building planes so don't know much on that front.

I have CKAN, but CKAN isn't only downloading, not installing; however, I'm mostly installing manually.
