I can't see the picture very well but the most common reasons are 1) one or both of the docking rings is mounted backwards, 2) they're not the same size, and 3) try turning SAS off and see if the rings' magnetism aligns the rings.

Also, welcome to the forum. :)

Hi @randomkspplayerr what he said.

Looking at your screenshot I can't tell if there is a docking port on the command vessel.

Also I find the 3.1 m distance suspicious. Is one or both docking ports clipped inside another part?

If a part is too close it can interfere with the docking ports touching each other.

Some parts don't have an exact match between the graphics and the actual place where they end.

All tipps from @Vanamondeshould be checked first.

Also for me, the screenshot gives not enough information .

Clipping error like @Martian Emigrant wrote can be the mistake.

When you have eliminated the error in manual docking, try this mod, which gives you the opportunity, do the docking manover automated.

I think the 3.1 metre distance was because I forgot to control from the docking port on the vessel.

Anyway, I tried moving the docking ports around with my engineers, the port on the target was moved outwards,

but for some reason that didn't fix it, I might just use the mod that @Tecorian suggested. Thanks anyways!

MechJeb should work like this for you.

You have to bring your ship to station etc. like near as 100-150 meters and even this approaching can do MechJeb for you :)

I add a zoomed in and somewhat enhanced detail pic for -slightly- more clarity.

The two docking ports do appear to be the same size, aligned, and touching. That really only leaves the following possibilities:

  • One of the two ports is attached with the front node instead of the back one. @Vanamonde mentioned this already. You should be able to check this in the SPH with the original craft file of the station and the pod (check both!). I primarily suspect the one on the station, since that port seems to be on structural plates, and the top/bottom nodes are very close to each other and easily mis-snap-connected while building.
  • One of the two ports has some other, maybe small part, attached to its front node. It's a variation of the same thing really - the front node is the one the game checks, if that is considered 'in use' docking won't work, even if the connected part is visually moved to no longer be in front of it.
  • A rare bug that sometimes happened (still happens perhaps?) with docking ports is that they can get in a state where the game mistakenly thinks the port already docked, but doesn't show it in the PAW. This can only be fixed through savefile editing. Been a while since I had that happen, so I don't remember the exact edit.

MechJeb would only 'help' in the sense of taking away the need to align the ports manually, but from the screenshot you seem to be able to do that already. It will not solve whatever is preventing the already aligned ports to dock, and really only introduce a new set of variables to the problem.

Hi.

Last minute thoughts .

In my early days I have placed things like an antenna or a parachute too close to the docking port and they caused interference.

About the docking port somehow marked as already docked wouldn't right clicking it and selecting undock do it?

Hello,

I think it might just be something to do with the docking ports on the station, I don't really have time to inspect now but I cheated up another craft

to rendezvous, and it just didn't dock. I'll check again tomorrow

Thanks anways!

This sounds like a bugged docking port. Sometimes they can get stuck in a state where they think they’re docked but they aren’t and so won’t dock to anything else.

It can be fixed in (a copy of!) the save file by editing the value for the faulty port to the correct one; I don’t remember exactly what value needs changed and to what but if you find the other vessel, the one you’re trying to dock to the station, in the save file then its docking port should be in the right state and you can copy+paste those values to the broken one.

Yes i think it was that it didn't really matter because i just reverted an old save and relaunched the station and now i docked thanks for helping!
