Elthy
https://aviationweek.com/aerospace/emerging-technologies/reaction-engines-folds-after-funding-shortfall Cant say this is unexpected, as they allways seemed way to ambitious without a billionaire funding them for fun. But still sad, as their dreams powered countless SSTOs in KSP...
mikegarrison
It was always pretty clear that they were never going to build their engine, much less an entire spacecraft. But they had some pretty serious interest from other companies that were interested in the heat exchanger technology they were working on. One of the possible ways to improve gas turbine efficiency is recuperation.
kerbiloid
Will the KSP hotfix to remove the Rapier engine as improbable be released?
tater
They never had any money. You'd read stories someone gave them $30M or something. Bound to fail. In that story they couldn't raise $25M, lol.
tater
Wonder who buys the IP?
Nuke
you think they could at least sell their heat exchanger tech. that was actually kind of impressive and has a bigger market than the engine itself. the rest of the engine is mostly paper. Pretty sure they already have. Multiple times. I think that's why Boeing gave them money. I think that's why Rolls Royce gave them money. Etc.
