el_guanaquito
Greetings. I made a fresh install of KSP1 today (and freshly installed Kerbal Engineer and Docking Port Alignment Indicator -- both the most recent releases). I was able to play for quite a while after the initial install, but have had increasingly more frequent crashes. At this point, I can only play for a couple of minutes before it crashes. In the process of crashing, it shows a graphic with a Kerbal beside a red exclamation point and it says "Unity" something or other. I was sooo close to completing my mission, I just wanted to push through despite the crashes. The last time I started the game, however, it crashed on the start screen and ended up crashing my whole computer (which automatically rebooted). Here's the link to my Google Drive with a couple of log files: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RQPmZn2tdvLVZu9B9Ok3cOWa6_LlP6Uy?usp=drive_link Any help would be much appreciated! I have no idea what is going on. I would be tempted to say its a hardware issue that is getting worse and worse, but the other persons computer is completely different but KSP is the main thing that is having the most issues. If I didn't know about the other persons issues I would say do a Windows Memory Diagnostic to see if the memory is having the problem, maybe even get memtest86 and try that (its more thorough than Windows Memory Diagnostic)
Lisias
There's nothing obvisouly wrong in your KSP neither Player log, other than the fact that they just stop out of the blue. KSP.log [LOG 16:32:47.263] [HighLogic]: =========================== Scene Change : From LOADING to MAINMENU ===================== [LOG 16:32:47.677] [AddonLoader]: Instantiating addon 'ContractDefs' from assembly 'KSP' [LOG 16:32:47.702] [UIMasterController]: ShowUI [LOG 16:32:47.867] [GameParameters]: Loaded custom parameter class CommNetParams. [LOG 16:32:47.868] [GameParameters]: Loaded custom parameter class MissionParamsGeneral. [LOG 16:32:47.868] [GameParameters]: Loaded custom parameter class MissionParamsFacilities. [LOG 16:32:47.868] [GameParameters]: Loaded custom parameter class MissionParamsExtras. [LOG 16:32:47.868] [GameParameters]: Loaded custom parameter class AdvancedParams. Player.log [UiApp] Awake: (Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Export/Debug/Debug.bindings.h Line: 35) [ApplicationLauncher] OnSceneLoadedGUIReady: scene MAINMENU ShouldBeVisible() True ShouldBeOnTop() True iIsPositionedAtTop True (Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Export/Debug/Debug.bindings.h Line: 35) [UIApp] Adding to Application Launcher (Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Export/Debug/Debug.bindings.h Line: 35) [ApplicationLauncher] SetHidden: (Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Export/Debug/Debug.bindings.h Line: 35) [MessageSystem] OnAppInitialized (Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Export/Debug/Debug.bindings.h Line: 35) [MessageSystem] Reposition 0.0742343 12972 (Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Export/Debug/Debug.bindings.h Line: 35) No crash dump in Player.log, no nothing. If you got the game from Steam, do a Install Verification to guarantee your game files are intact (SSD users are terribly prone to have files corrupted out of the blue). I would also remove all mods after the verification and try to run the game without them first. The less different things you have installed on KSP, less suspects we have when something borks. The memtes86 idea from Anth is also a very good one. It's pretty rare to have an HW issue, but it happens. And a corrupted memory will also corrupt files if the screwed memory is used as buffer while copying files - had a computer with a bad L1 cache in the times the L1 were external (P5 and 486 era), guess how I discovered it? When most of my files got corrupted while copying from the old hardisk to the new one I had installed...
el_guanaquito
Okie doke, I ran MemTest86 with spectacularly poor results. I have added a photo of how my screen looked when the test froze to my Google Drive folder. The test froze so hard, I couldn't even restart the computer by pressing the reset button on the computer tower itself. I had to do a hard shutdown. The long and short of it is the test detected nearly 4,000 errors. Are these RAM errors or CPU errors? I assume RAM, but because the error lines mention CPU, it makes me wonder if its talking about the CPU Cache memory. Of course, I hope it's RAM since that's a much easier component to swap out. I await your advice . . . Edited January 25 by el_guanaquito

I await your advice . . . I am sorry to hear that your ram is most likely the problem You have 2 options: 1. If the RAM is no longer under warrantee, try to see how many of the ram sticks is faulty, If one of them is fine then I would use that until getting replacement ram. 2. If the RAM is under warrantee, then RMA it (send it back to the store or manufacturer) but you will need to buy more ram while you wait (they will want to test it) if you want your computer to continue running. I had my ram fail maybe 4 years ago and I had to buy new ram while I waited for the old ram to be replaced, so I bought 16GB of ram until I had the 32GB. Sucks but at least my computer was running. el_guanaquito
Thanks for all your help! I have ordered some RAM, though I won't be able to take advantage of RMA because my current RAM is out of warranty. Hopefully this will remedy all my woes! Can you update me if KSP is running well after the replacement?
el_guanaquito
I got the new RAM yesterday, installed it and immediately fired up KSP. I've had no problems at all. Looks like faulty RAM was the issue. Thanks again for your help!
