Hello everyone!

So after watching a few guys on YouTube messing around with this game, I figured I'd give it a try. So far, so good, getting my money's worth out of it.

Anyway, I've done the tutorials and read up on the basics of orbital mechanics. And now these Kerbals just gave me a blank check and unlimited resources, and I have no idea what I want to do with it.

Anything you want!

Take it slow at first and build small.

Get used to the basics of orbital mechanics first before you try anything else. A lot of new people see all these parts in the VAB and just attatch EVERYTHING... Bad idea.

Also remember that although there are a bunch of planets and moons around Kerbol (the sun), the planet Kerbin is worthy of in investigation too.

Flying around Kerbin/using it to test landers etc is a good way to train yourself how to land and stuff, which will save you heartache of not training first and subsequently crash landing on the Mun. Lol.

Welcome to the forums! :)

The amazing thing about Kerbal Space Program is that you can pretty much do whatever you want to. Still, the amount of freedom it gives can be overwhelming sometimes, especially given that there's no real directions it gives to guide you, either.

If you want a little structure, try something like this:

  1. Set yourself a big, ambitious goal to achieve. Find something that inspires you. Maybe it'll be something as simple as visiting every planet at least once, or maybe it'll be something as ambitious as a fully self-sustaining interplanetary transit network, with shuttles crisscrossing back and forth between ground bases and orbital fuel depots.
  2. Think about the sorts of things you'll need to accomplish in order to achieve that goal. These are your objectives.
  3. Break down your objectives even further, thinking about the sorts of skills you'll need in order to accomplish them.
  4. Do missions that practice these skills. Start small and simple, then gradually work your way up to bigger and more complex missions as the basics get easier.

Hope this helps a little. Happy launching!

Welcome!

You can also try to remake historical missions like Apollo. This will give you some goals. You can also check the Challenge section of this forum, this can give you ideas.

Maybe try to dock ships in orbits... just doing that is quite a challenge!

Welcome to the community Mr. Entropy :)

KSP is a sandbox (currently) so you are free to do what you like so you can let your imagination run wild :)

I suggest you learn to obit first though, as it's an essential skill, you need that before you can do anything else really!
