Minmus bug - flight sticks on sub-orbital trajectory

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm stuck. Hello everyone. I've got a large rover in orbit around Minmus, equipped with a MechJeb 1.9 and a ISA mapsat dish, otherwise stock. I've landed it there several times, and each time I touch down fine, everything seems normal. When I go back to the tracking station though, it lists the rover as on sub-orbital trajectory, not landed. Trying to activate the flight again causes the KSB to lock for a minute while it thinks, then declares the flight a catastrophic failure, everything has crashed. I'm only using those two addons, and I've not had any trouble landing identical rovers on Kerbal and the Mun. Any ideas?

I've noticed a bug where when I land my rover on Minmus, the game won't recognize it as landed (and as a result won't let me go back to the Space Center) while it's on rover wheels. This may be related to what you're experiencing. The workaround I found for it was to add landing gear to the rover, so when I want to go back to the space center or switch to some other spacecraft, I just put the landing gear down and the rover becomes "landed".

edit -- and I should note that I'm not using any mods, so if it is the same issue, then it's not mod-related.

Must be something that differs between landing gears (wheels and legs) and rover wheels. Upload their part files and we'll have a look on how to solve them.

By the way: Did you set the brake?

The parts I used were all stock. The rover wheels are roverWheel3, and the landing gear is landingLeg1-2. I can upload the part files or the craft file if you want, but I'm not sure how to upload files in this forum.

To set the landing gear I have to brake to a stop first, otherwise the rover goes flying in the low gravity on Minmus. I'm not sure how to set the brake non-temporarily though (pressing B only sets it as long as you hold down B).

I just tried this with the largest rover wheels on Minmus and got the same result. It was an entirely stock ship. It seems like what is happening is that the gravity is just too weak to pull all of the wheels into contact with the surface, so the rover dances about a bit. It was actually quite hard to get the game to even let me switch to the Space Center.

I'm going to try this out with the other two rover wheels. I wonder if it is specific to Minmus, or if this happens on any low-g world. Anyone know?

Same here. Using a stock parts rover with tank wheels causes a problem on the "lake" surface. Even when the vehicle is at a complete stop and the parking brake is engaged, it's impossible to exit to KSC or warp time. It says something about "about to crash". Driving onto the hillside eliminates the problem.

I remember how boring that ride was since i missed my landing. The hab modules were located on the "shore" and it took forever to drive there with the slow wheels. Another rover with medium wheels behaved normally.

From the descriptions here, this seems to be exactly the problem. I've put the parking brake on and if I'm lucky, I can manage to quit to the space centre, but the rover does jitter about all over the place when it's supposedly stopped. Would screens or craft files help here?

I have this exact same problem. I landed 2 rovers on the Mun, the constantly wiggle around even when the brake is set. Then when i flip into the Tracking Station it lists them as being on a Sub-Orbital Trajectory. When choosing them, it's a catastrophic failure and they are "poof" gone. I am attempting to try the landing gear method to keep them in place. Very frustrating after spending hours getting stuff to the Mun to have it disappear. :(

Edit: So i tried the landing gear thing an it does work, however, I was trying to use the rovers to move Mun base parts around and it was impossible to use the landing gear and try to decouple parts at the same time (the magnetism would make the parts re-attached upon switching to the rovers unless they could 'roll' far enough away) And then every single time they would 'Crash' into the planet upon switching away. Sooo.... Off planet bases will have to wait until the future ..... sux :(

The problem still exists April 2016. Did anyone file a bug report?

Ok, so two things:

1. This thread is almost 3 years old. A lot has changed since then, so I seriously doubt it's exactly the same problem. If it is, than:

2. It's more of a tech support problem than a gameplay question. I'd recommend that you head over to whichever tech support forum is relevant for you (modded or unmodded) and read the "Read this first" stickied thread. Then if none of the "self help" tips work, start a new thread, providing the information requested in the stickied thread.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
