Astronaut as US Prsident

I'm not American, but wonder what would happen if the U.S. has chosen as their president a former astronaut.

Or what would have been if the president of Russia would be ex-cosmonaut, but this is unrealistic because in Russia there is no real democracy, and everyone knows who will be the President of Russia for the next 20 years

I would vote for Chris Hadfield as President, that's if I was a U.S citizen.. He probably wouldn't be that great as a president, but we'd have more stuff in space!

I believe Chris Hadfield mentioned he has no interest in politics, to which I say good. I have great respect for Chris, more than any politician I know of. I'd prefer that he and others like him not get mixed up in the nasty business that is called politics.

As much as i know it wouldn't happen, people like Chris Hadfield are, imo, perfect, for the simple fact that political survival means nothing to them, just getting the job done the way it should be is all that would matter to them.

Unfortunately, as perfect as they might be for the job in an abstract sense, it also means they're far more vulnerable to the political crucifixions that seem to be the stock-in-trade of professional politicians.

yep, someone not attuned to the 'game' will be set up and cut down in short order as they won't have created the political safety net to survive or prevent such things, and lack the experience to see it coming on their own.
