What did you do in KSP1 today?

(New to the forums, so hi :))

Today, I decided to attempt a vertical takeoff plane, and after an hour or so of tweaking I finally got the tiny craft to lift straight up. The next stage detached the two vertical engines and fuel tanks and simultaneously fired the normal horizontal engine. So while doing some test runs, I let the tanks on the vertical engines run dry and then did the same for the other engine, checked the orbital map and I was on my way out of Kerbin's influence and into an orbit around the Sun.

Fired up KSP for the first time in a few months, and finished off a few probe missions on my challenge career save. No random contracts. No probes other than Stayputnik. No upgrades except those required for Manoeuvre nodes.

Made my first successful landing at Tylo.... followed by a second after the game crashed before I could save. Landed at Vall too.

The third probe I sent to Jool is sitting in an unstable orbit waiting on the Explore Laythe contract which hasn't appeared yet... which is odd as I had been very careful not to go near any SOIs pre contract. Is it possible that errors caused by time acceleration could have dragged a probe through its SOI without me knowing?

Now just Laythe, Dres, Moho and Eeloo left to do in this game.

Laythe seems dead, but I have a few designs to try throwing at Moho, and one already en route to Dres... its just taking the long route (6 years!)

Tomorrow I will probably try Moho, and maybe finish the 15k fund manned Duna mission I sent on another save :D

I completed a satellite contract, and forgot a probe core to deorbit the last stage of the delivery system. I reverted, added the core, did the contract again, then noticed I put the core on the wrong side of the decoupler... Then I stopped playing for the night.

I'm going to try again tonight. Third time is a charm!

Landed my Eve Bug, it's a large science rover with every piece of science experiment, plus a lab to be able to clean experiments and process science data. Bill, Bob and Lemwig Kerman volunteered to go on the one way mission to Eve where they will now spend their foreseeable future rovering across the surface of the hostile planet exploring in name of Kerbalkind. It handles the surface very nicely and can easily cruise around 20m/s.

Today I tested a new shuttle variant. Then I decided to dock it with an experimental station I happened to have in orbit. Then I realized that station does not have the docking port to accomodate the shuttle. Then I build a small rocket bringing up a docking port adapter. Then I docked the shuttle. Then I deorbited it to land perfectly on the runway. Good times :)

@Shadowzone: Nice Ringo Gigante station. :)

My apologies in advance for the night time pictures.

But today, I've rescued the scientist Desgar Kerman who was stranded in LKO. Secretly, I accepted that contract as an excuse to use my Shuttle design. Here's a few pics of the landing:

Finally, I have made some progress on a ludicrously difficult mission I have been working on. I can not upload pictures at the moment but the whole thing is being recorded an will end up as a brief 8-9 minute video.

Essentially, I take an SSTO to Tekto (one of the moons in the Outer Planets mod), which has a thick, oxygen-less atmosphere and low gravity. The moon orbits a gas giant way out past Jool so getting there an back in an SSTO required 3 gravity assists on the way and immaculate planning!

wow. when will you release that? It looks amazing

It is part of the an SLS package, however I will probably release a WIP version as soon as I have the booster done, and then release updates as more parts are finished. That way I can avoid making a bunch of people excited about yet another SLS mod for nothing in case I burn out before the whole thing is done :)

Today, I did three things.

1. Last few days have been working on a SSTO for my story in Fan Fiction. Never really made one before. I finally finished working on it today. Can take three crew into a stable orbit (at which point it needs refueling because it is as close as you can get to empty).

2. I have figured out a lot of the Rover Functions of the current Mech Jeb 2 - allowing me to scout out a spot near KSC with a unmanned rover for the new SSTO to land at.

3. Using my new skill I then made a Mech Jeb 2 controlled fuel tanker (which did all the driving and even stopped before reaching the "Target - in other words it did not smash into the ship) and after a couple of hours trying different sets up (I wish there was a way to measure distance in the assembly phase), trying to use either a docking port from above or the KLAW, I finally got to refuel the returned SSTO and take off the crew (and repack the chutes).

I truly have a reusable transport from the surface to orbit. I feel weird....

Oh, and used RAPIER engines in the design. First time also.
