I need help please!!! Fuel Crossfeed not working!!(Maybe)

Recommended Posts

So I built a mothership in space with kethane so it could refuel but when i attached the engine module the engines get no fuel. I have the thin 2-1m adapter leading to 4 docking ports which are docked. Then the other 4 ports are attached to another 2-1m adapter which leads to another on. After that cube octags lead to the engine. All of those are able to crossfeed but the engines get no fuel. Please help. Also all 4 ports are docked. If you want to take a closer look at it you need. Mechjeb, Ketahne, and Kerbal Engineer. Ill post the Save folder Picture-http://imgur.com/F2qkWio Save-https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9EtB5l5Vgu8YTBkWE9RZFZ2V1k&usp=sharing-Be sure to download all the files.

Thank you very much. I worked really hard on this.

Post screenshots please. But it possibly sounds like your trying to run engines behind a 4-way splitter that has docking ports holding it on? Fuel won't flow through those like that. But screenshots please!

Edit: the run on sentences made me stop reading before I saw there was a non-parsed link in there to the screenshot. Why aren't the engines installed directly to the tank ?

Using those 2.5-1.25m adapters for fuel cross feed through docking ports doesn't always work when they are installed upside down. A quirk most of the adapters and splitters share

You would save a pile of parts if you installed the engines directly to the orange tank, but baring that, have the engines mounted to the smallest of the silver 2.5m tanks with the same docking port configuration to connect to the main ship should solve it. I think it's your aft most adapter not feeding between it and the one in front of it. (Not home or I would test it myself)

You can test it out by installing a small radial engine on every adapter and turning them all on while on the launch pad and see where the fuel flow stops.

ehm. I really want to help, but that's a whole lot of files youre asking us to download here. Put them in a zip it's a lot easier. This is just really long to download each finle indiviually. and not everyone has a google account, using mediafire or dropbox will get you much more response ^^ Looking forward to help! Don't forget that if you need help improving one of your crafts, the best place to go on the forums is the rocket builders subforum. it's there just for that :)

Normally the problem is a very simple fix. You need to run 4 fuel lines from your orange tank to the base of the 4 nuclear engines. But I'm guessing that the engines are docked with the tank later on... which means that your current configuration will not work... that said... if you run fuel lines from the docking ports to the engines, and fuel lines from the tank to the docking ports, you should be able to bypass the fuel crossfeed bug.

EDIT: I just tested it and verified that you just need to run fuel lines from your orange tank to your docking ports (on the fuel section) and then run fuel lines from your docking ports (on the engine section) to the engines themselves and it will work.

Scoundrel I assume you skipped over the fact that you can't add fuel lines in EVA? If he didn't assemble it in orbit he wouldn't have needed the docking ports to hold them together, and in that case he would probably have just attached the engines to the orange tank, saving himself around 40 parts he used making that connection!

I was under the impression he was trying to figure out his design flaw prior to relaunch since, as you yourself observed that one cannot add fuel lines in EVA, and thus, any other discussion would be nothing more than a diagnosis and its subsequent explanation. As his engine section is non-functional, his only recourse is to relaunch those two parts and re-dock them, hence the posted suggestion of how to implement the solution to his engine problem. You are, of course, correct in that attaching the engines directly to the tank would have been the best solution, and my preferred one, but it wouldn't have solved bigpapabearxx's question, which was how to get his tank and engine section functioning.

Now, if I am incorrect in my assumption, then I apologize to everyone, and respectfully bow out of the conversation. If not, then I hope my suggestion is helpful and bigpapabearxx can get his mothership working the way he wants, and we can all enjoy screenshots of this success.

Cheers!

... I didn't ask you to post the mod files? I asked you to post a zip of your save file, instead of having us download all of the files you added up there individually. Looking gets us the idea of the problem, but to fix it we or need your .craft files, or your whole save if you prefer. That way we can troubleshoot the problem directly instead of shooting random ideas of what might work. goes a lot faster ^^
