Whenever I look at Kerbin, it lags!

Recommended Posts

I am having a problem, whenever i look at kerbin, it lags! When i am looking at the sky, it is totally fine. Are there any settings I could change?

(in the example below i used a 8 part ship to show that part count has nothing to do with it)

Well, yes, when you look at a planet or moon, there will be a slight decrease in frame-rate. With less powerful computers, that difference will be greater. If you really don't like the lag, just turn down the scenery settings.

Well ive turned down terrain detail to minimum, and render quality to minimum. Still happens.

A lot of the lag that you can get near Kerbin is caused by it's oceans. You can muck around in the config file or somewhere and change how far out you are when the oceans load, but you'll have to find someone who knows what they're doing with it... (So if anyone does know, please share!) :P

The only bit I can remember is that your looking to change the either the MinSubdivision or MaxSubdivison down to 1, whichever value isn't at 1 already...

EDIT: Found it, you need to change the values in the settings.cfg in the KSP folder.

Oh yes, I forgot about that one! Definitely the way to go.

It's not just that OP is looking at the planet; I have noticed a definite reduction in performance since .20 came out. So far I've only been toying with designs around Kerbin and its moons, but it's pretty strong at Kerbin, even in low to middle orbits. When looking skyward, though, I think there's been a bit of a performance increase, so it does seem to be associated with terrain, and land terrain at that. In fact, as I watched a capsule come in for a splashdown at sea, it ran smoothly unless I rotated the camera to catch an island in the background, which caused my frame rate to slow.
