Random facts about KSP

3_bit

Recommended Posts

Decided to start a thread with random facts / unnoticed facts most people didn't notice about KSP. Let's see how far this thread gets.

1) There aren't male/female docking ports (potential legalities there)

2) All aircraft engines and the Aerospike are made by "C7 Aerospace Division." while tanks are made by "C7 Aerospace."

Add more if you know more

Feh. Thanks for reminding me about all the part description inconsistencies that always bug the pee out of me. heh. Like some electrical parts are listed in units/hr and some are units/minute.

3) The SPH's hitbox is noticeably larger than the actual building, as the Kerbals can walk a little ways above the SPH on the air above it. (at least I know it was pre .20, I haven't checked it recently to see if it is still there)

It's no longer there as of 0.19, prove in Scott Manley's B9 Aerospace R2 video.

If you look at one of the new remote control probe cores, the chips have clever names printed on them, with one of the more clever being the "FORGET-ME-NOT Memory Module"

6) Altitude as used for engine Isp goes by command pod location also.

7) At some point in the past few versions, g0 (for the purposes of finding fuel consumption, not surface gravity) went from 9.81 to 9.82.

8) Depending on where you look, the higher performance stock jet is referred to as both a "turbojet" and a "turbofan."

9) Scientific instruments draw power. (0.0075/s, or 27/hr)

10)SAS and ASAS are retunable, if a hassle to do so.

11) The altimeter widget rounds down, so you're often 1 meter higher than it claims.

When entering time warp, the trajectory you follow is calculated based on the velocity of your active command pod, rather than your center of mass.

I am pretty sure that this is done when in normal time as well. It explains why your AP and PE change slightly while you rotate your vessel.

Exactly, but entering time warp while rotating allows you to change your orbit without expending fuel.
