pa1983
It's finally done! Get ready to create some debris on Duna!Click my sig for details. I read the details. Im wondering do you do aerobreaking around Duna? If so is that tug reusable or do you ditch it?

Exothermos
I read the details. Im wondering do you do aerobreaking around Duna? If so is that tug reusable or do you ditch it?It depends. When I use the big "orange tank" tug, It's because I want to drop it off in orbit for reuse. It's also just a nice cushion to have. When I don't feel like going through all that, I use a smaller one and do the intercept course thing, ditching the tug, making pretty orange reentry flames. I have a much harder time controlling the landing site that way though, and that isn't good, as you know! A more adept player with more interplanetary experience than me would surely be able to save a ton of fuel with more careful techniques. I tend to play by brute force
Silverchain
Loverboy I Thistleup in orbit above KSC. It's not a very good SSTO, in point of fact it's a rubbish SSTO, has barely any fuel left after making LKO and it's a pig to fly in air... but it is stock and without any clipping. BolkoB
this plane i was made for doing almost all missions, he can land everywhere you want, SSTO, VTOL (low gravity planets) can carry 9 kerbals and if refuel capable to make interplanetary flights. When it made stable orbit, i also add lander, crane and some more fuel tanks with few pods for emergency saves kerbals:for esthetically beauty going to add same lander and crane in other side and send it to Laythe. This plane is pretty heave (of course) but i like it so much ! Could be nice if some good engineers could help me to upgrade it to make more comfortable to control. (This plane i made by rebuilding another one, dunno who was builder of first model, but it gives me idea to upgrade it, so thank you very much for your job)

As to the Mainsail VTOL I think you'll be waiting a while! I've got a working version somewhere but it's a terrible, terrible idea... Cupcake... KissSh0t
How do you get it off the ground Exo? I've tried about 10 times now and each time it pulls to the left and explodes... I can't even get half way down the runway.*___* Edited September 26, 2013 by KissSh0t
Captain Sierra
That seems to be a known bug with the runway. Every time I launch a plane, it torques off every other attempt. Maybe Squad can fix that.
KissSh0t
Re-Invigorated by Exo's new ship I am trying to make an SSTO than can land vertically... because of Duna.. and it's lack of letting me land conventionally in one piece : INot sure where this design is going.. just making it up as I go.. it has 4 LV-T30 pointing down so far... mmmmmmm.. I hope it works xD Edited September 27, 2013 by KissSh0t spelling
Captain Sierra
Accounting for Duna having something like 55% kerbin gravity, that should be okay assuming you burn enough gas on the way there. That is I believe 860kn of thrust.

I can't even get half way down the runway.*___*Ah, this should be because you have a kerbal aboard. This defaults the controls to the rover's cupola, which is facing backwards. That messes everything up. Click the forward docking port and control from there!

I never thought of that//
Captain Sierra
If that works on Kerbin, you could probably get away with 2 LV-T45s on Duna.
KissSh0t
I reckon this would be a good challenge for everyone.Make an SSTO Aircraft with one Big Red fuel tank as a non removable part in the aircraft..xD

Captain Sierra
I reckon this would be a good challenge for everyone.Make an SSTO Aircraft with one Big Red fuel tank as a non removable part in the aircraft..xDI could never do this. I personally refuse to air hog and my definition of air hogging is placing so many intakes that one must use the evil little cubes or turn on part clipping. Stack intakes on stacks, not clipped, surface intakes not clipping into each other. Because this is the policy I build SSTOs by, I have trouble with payload capacity.
