Good luck. That thing looks nearly impossible.

Key word: "nearly"

It's actually surprisingly easy, being VTHL and all. Rocket SSTO's are pretty much trivial in KSP (pick an engine, figure out the fuel necessary for T/W ~1.2, keep a tiny payload), and you just have to slap some wings around the fuel tanks so you can glide it back to the runway. You don't need it to be able to lift off from the runway full, you don't care about aerodynamic balance until it's empty, and you don't need that much lift to land it without the fuel. My take on it is on my stock thread on the sig, and I got it right on the first try, and I even slapped on some jet engines for lols and an easier landing. That rarely happens with jet-powered SSTOs, in my experience.

As to the Kliper, looks good, Giggleplex. But you build a bit too small for my taste (I really, really hate the sound of the small radial engines, you seem addicted to it).

I don't really like the sound of the 24-77s too (I used to put warnings about how annoying they sound). I hope they change the sound soon.

The Kliper's 24-77s only run for about 24 seconds, so I don't think that will be a problem.

Also, the X-33 uses Aerospikes. :)

I found a better launcher for the Ike-1 probes you sent me in a PM. The Angara A7 gives me an atmosphere ∆V of 9653 m/s and a vacuum ∆V of 11671 m/s.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay, I'm back, and I've finally gotten the confidence to use my Atlas III's RD-180 on the Atlas V:

So far, I'm getting better a performance from the new first stage compared to the old ones. (Although it's (embarrassingly) on par with my (new(!)(I'm very parenthetical today :))) Atlas IIAS).

Also, I'm re making the front page and replacing all of the old rockets. :)

Some sneak peaks:

The Ike-1 was designed to be as minimalistic as possible so that it is both a challenging and fun to fly (at least for me).

Meteosat 2 and Ariane 1:

Okay, so here's my Meteosat 2:
Javascript is disabled. View full album

  • It can get to orbit with half of its third stage fuel left.
  • KEO capable (if you want to).
  • It is carried by an Ariane 1.
  • It looks like it uses different propellants for different stages (Like the Ariane 1: Stage 1: Hypergolic, Stage 2: Hypergolic, Stage 3: Cryogenic, Stage 4: Solid).
  • Has all 4 scientific instruments.
  • It is covered with fixed solar panels (So you don't have to worry about forgetting to deploy the panels).
  • The satellite looks like the Meteosat 2.

Action group 1 is to extend the antennae.

The whole Ariane family coming soon.
