Sometimes, I just feel like this, about the world, especially, if I read in the news, that there's some mob of irrationality and religious zealotism or fundamentalism (and I'm not just saying Muslim okay, even other religions) brewing in some place in the world, pulling all of us back down to the dark ages...

You aren't the only one. Mindless, barbaric yelling of religious dogma/doctrine without compassion, empathy, tolerance, or regard of another's situation is one of the main reasons why I became an Atheist. Whenever I see a zealot being intolerant and yelling at a certain group because of religious teachings, I always wonder how a human being can be so heartless.

This happens all the time. Especially when an angry mob figures out how to get their way.

In my opinion religion gets a lot of bad rap for things that have nothing to do with it, greed for land, greed for power, greed for pleasure, all those things are too embarrassing to admit to so it's easy to say, "God says i should do this," it sounds more noble, if religion didn't exist war would carry on as always, that's my opinion at least, humans are apes, massively clever but apes nonetheless, and all those base desires of want and greed will be sought after by the powerful, religion is just used as an excuse.

It hurts to say it, cause i believe killing so many innocent people will be teribble, but it seems our Capitalist system is irreversibly intertwined with our government.
