Orbiter is an amazing game, don\'t get me wrong. I have it, and I love it. But it lacks the ability to make your own rockets unless you know 3D modelling. Which can be learnt, I admit. But KSP has things that orbiter 2010 dosen\'t have, for example waiting in anticipation for the next update to see what new level of awesomness it will bring to the game. Orbiter dosen\'t have that, because it is finished. Yes, there are new versions occasionally, but on KSP you don\'t have to wait 4 YEARS for a new update.

Orbiter is ok and all its the absence of collision detection that bugs me.

And even then how it will fly depends only on what you have written in that values, not how you were designing it.

KSP gives the opportunity to put something together and see if it can fly... Strap Shuttle to Energiya? Combine N1 and SaturnV. Add more boosters? Design spaceship from scratch? And turn it upside down just after takeoff? That\'s the point of KSP!

In Orbiter you have just some ships with well known abilities and if they don\'t fly, then you are awful pilot. In KSP if it doesn\'t fly - redesign it!

But they both are amazing! Just KSP is more for engineers than pilots.

funny how this thread has it the other way around - it was Orbiter that 'bred' KSP in the fiirst place :

HarvesteR himself learned to fly stuff into space with Orbiter - so did i.... heck, we shared the same PC back then (and got into quite some epic family fist-fights over that inconvenience)

but anyways - thing is, if there was no Orbiter, there\'d probably not be KSP.... even the tool i made for 3dsMax which HarvesteR included in the SDK was initially developed for making Orbiter addons

now, i guess that\'s easy to miss since a few months ago, the KSP community passed the '1.0 O/F mark' (the point where it has as many users asthe Orbiter Forum, ~8000)

The thread here though, is definitely useful to those who like KSP but want something more simmy, of which I\'m sure there are more than a few, cross-pollination between the two communities is never a bad thing.

Its amazing to say I liked flying and messing about in orbiter. I would sit down for an hour reading the Manuel of how to get into space, and then fly, and mayby crash once or twice. Those were the days before I went to high school and learnt about gaming.

I agree with the general consensus that Orbiter is much more realistic, so, if you are going for fun and craziness, it is clearly not the best option.

Funny thing though, I can get into orbit in Orbiter with ease. In KSP, I have never done so !

Orbiter = Physics and Accuracy

KSP = Bacis Physics and Fun (most of the time :-\)

I love to play both of these games (although I suck at orbiter).

The thing is, Orbiter is a simulator. KSP is a game. The good thing is that these two games can co-exist together. Unlike another two games I know.
