I used this trick I saw here:

(see spoiler)

Ohhh! That\'s a handy trick!

Using two carts, I made radial boosters at a 30 degree angle.

edit: Yaknow, Arawas, I think you or Quex should start a thread about this idea. 8) There are lots of practical applications to be discussed and compared.

My first landing with a completely unmodded Lunar Module (all previous unmodded propulsion systems were used with modded RCS). This was done almost entirely stock and it came out pretty well. Not enough fuel to return, sadly.

Not enough fuel to... What?

That should be plenty of fuel to return to Kerbin.

Until now I\'ve had 5 succesfull return-trips to the Mun. However, I\'ve landed always around the Munar equator. My goal is now to land somewhere in the area of the Munar south pole; it seems there are some deep holes in that area. Difficult to explore though with currently no Munar Rover available and I\'m a strict KSP-vanilla player ... !

Those holes are wide enough to fly into. :) How many can you visit? It depends mostly on your efficiency of landing.

When you launch to get to the Munar polar region, you can get a head start on the Munar orbit inclination by modifying your launch heading to 88° or 92°. Leaving Kerbin on a heading of 88° will put you north of Mun, and 92° will put you south. Doing this instead of a 90° plane change in Munar orbit will give you extra fuel for tourism.

Hey. New Lunar achievement! I just landed my first unmanned probe on the lunar surface. I call it, 'Explorer One'. It is fitted with SEVERAL cameras and when the sun rises, will take an EXTREMELY HIGH RESOLUTION 360 degree pan of the landing site. Here is a picture of the probe.

Well. The sun rose and I took the 360 degree panorama of the landing site!

This was taken from coordinates:

0° 38\' 57'

241° 9\' 29'

on the surface of the Mun.

I warn you. This image is in extreme resolution. Click to expand only if you dare...

Another picture taken of the probe as it nears the second day of its mission.

That\'s worth a try ... ! I already tried to reach that area via a Polar orbit around Kerbin (with launch heading around 180°) but that didn\'t went well.

I should mention, it\'s 88° or 92° when you leave orbit, not from launch. Your heading at launch will change as you orbit around Kerbin, according to inclination. (For example, launching from KSC with heading 88° means your orbit is inclined 2°. It will change to 90° after a quarter orbit, then 92° halfway around, 90° at 3/4, and back to 88° at the end of the first orbit.) So be sure to set up your inclination at the correct time.

Got a fully stock spacecraft from Kerbin to the Mun.

It didn\'t look very big on the pad, but it had enough fuel to drop into a 31KM orbit with plenty to spare for the return when I reached the Mun. I need to bring lander legs next time so I can land. Here\'s the craft, though.

here\'s the orbit

And as you can see, I had enough fuel to land. My Kerbals, however, will never return to their home planet. They are a permanent monument.
