minerman30
I introduce to you, the smallest operational plane in KSP, the Mosquito! The bare-bones version has a whopping 6 parts and uses every one of them to the fullest extent. It handles very nicely but cannot land.Download:http://www./?46o9apz1hv1a187I also have a more advanced version, the Mosquito 2.0!It has 13 parts and can land and take off again using parachutes and landing legs.It also has a Clamp-o'-tron Jr. docking port on the front, for refueling or transportation. (Fueling and transportation means provided by user.)Action group 1 opens the parachutes, do this above 500 meters radar altitude and below 50 m/s to ensure the not-exploding of the craft. After landing, do an EVA, and while holding on to the side of the craft repack the radial chutes.Download:http://www./?76cusuoytd63te3Both craft require no more than 1/3 throttle to keep them in the air, have a 17,500 meter ceiling, and have an approximate 300 km range at 1/3 throttle. They were inspired by Scott Manley's video about a 5-part plane (before jet engines required intakes.) Levelord
Calling it a spaceplane implies that it can get into and operate in space.... Can it?
cpt_nosh
Looking at it, I don't think so.
iDan122
It is not a spaceplane, it's a plane, know your terms.
minerman30
Fine, I'll change it, but it is called the Spaceplane Hangar, right?
Sir_Tramalot
Yes, but that is because it is intended for space-planes (it being a space center), not atmospheric planes.
astropapi1
Reminds me of this plane: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_XFY
Markus Reese
It is a space plane, just not an SSTO space plane. Couple of side boosters and it space planes nicely ^.^
Javster
As others have said, THIS ISN'T A SPACEPLANE!
Captain Sierra
1 giant booster, a few structural components, and some clever clipping, and I can make it an SSTO. so there.
llamatoes
Didn't Scott do one of these back in 0.17?
spaceman1999
Captain Sierra You should make this a spaceplane!
Captain Sierra
Gimmie 24 hours. I'll put it in orbit. No promises on returning it though.

Javster
Fine, I'll change it, but it is called the Spaceplane Hangar, right?Yes, but you can make atmospheric planes, rovers and spaceplanes in it.
Arbolus
It doesn't have any rocket engines or oxidiser. Even if you could get it into space, once there it would be impossible to make any manoeuvres without using some sort of tug.
inigma
I've got Scott Manley beat by a few parts and tons:http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/52317-SSI-Ion-Class-Shuttlecraft-%28Smallest-VTOL-SSTO-Ever-Designed%
KissSh0t
Spaceplane implies space..I'm sure you could change it into a real Spaceplane.. put your thinking cap on and get back in that hanger~!
Neotician
It is a space plane, just not an SSTO space plane. Couple of side boosters and it space planes nicely ^.^Its engine can't operate in space Also, could be made smaller.Your move, Minerman (He DID claim he had the smallest operational plane ) Edited October 11, 2013 by Neotician
Cruzan
You'd need to use a different cockpit to really get the "smallest" SSTO. The Command Pod or Lander Can would be the best options, unless you want to go un-manned or use an external seat Edited October 11, 2013 by Cruzan
sal_vager
As others have said, THIS ISN'T A SPACEPLANE!And this is not appropriate, we know it's not a spaceplane, sheesh!Old thread is old but if people are going to contribute tiny aircraft designs it can stay open for now
kerbalk
i see why you call it a spaceplane, but to be honest, its a little... clickbait to say you have the smallest aperational SPACEPLANE and not have it work on space.

Do bear in mind that this whole discussion was over six years ago, and everyone involved has presumably long since moved on to other things-- not to mention that KSP has gone through many version updates in the meantime, and is now quite a different game. So, not much more to be said about this topic now. Accordingly, locking thread to prevent further confusion. If someone would like to talk about tiny planes in today's KSP, feel free to spin up your own thread.
