Equatorial orbit has more easily visible anomalies. Don't have to be very low orbit but it helps a bit. Make sure you don't have ground clutter turned on, the Mün rocks give me the same sparkly visual as anomalies when I'm in low orbit.

If you don't want to use mods, just watch for sparkles that look like graphic flaws, but stay in the same spot on the surface. After you know where to look, some are visible from 1000km away.

ISA Mapsat is a really fun plugin for that.

You could use ISA Mapsat, or for me (90% stock guy here), I used to have a low orbiting station with landers at the ready in case I saw a sparkle.

Another thing you can do is use this. It can help you find anomalies on Mun, and all other planets that have known anomalies.

I used it to find the anomalies on Duna.

That's very similar to what I have just done with Munar Surveyor. I don't play KSP stock, but I'm using 1960's - 1970's technology as near as I can - it's just what I personally enjoy doing.

Munar Surveyor is an unmanned Centaur upper stage with the Ordan telescope mod and one really, really simple lander that I can release to mark the spot for a later manned mission.
