The trees? That's called Terrain scatter, you can set it's density in the settings menu.

It isn't trees-only, it also creates rocks on the Mun, those strange thingies on Pol, etc.

I saw trees to the Northwest of the Space Center in 0.20. They aren't new.

There've been trees since before .13, at least. I joined in .13 (or possibly earlier) and they were an option. It's a little-known option, I guess.

yea, its the groundscatter option, you turn it on you gets trees, but its not on by default
